This seems like a ridiculously low price for a 4080 laptop.

This is primarily meant to be plugged to an external monitor.
That being said the mediocre display might be acceptable by many for an RTX 4080 at this price without it being a Refurb.

From what I understand from reviews - the screen is bad. As a desktop replacement, if you're going to use it primarily with an external display it shouldn't matter. I just bought one to replace my desktop. I'll only game at my desk anyway, and do basic computer stuff on the go. Supposedly has decent cooling, good performance.

Don't know why being crazy on this. It has been $1200 for refurbished once every while from late 2023. That's a whole freaking year ago and now there are new RTX 50 series cards right on the corner. That 4080 also only has 12gb vram.

Yes, it's the first brand new 4080 laptop for this price. No, I don't recommend buying it as these are just the first wave. It's nothing like a great deal at all - just like any 40 series. If you play games buy any AMD if you run AI buy 3060. That's it.
There's always next gpus, every two years, that's why prices for 40 series are low. You either buy now or risk stock running out or wait 2 more years for 50 series to be at these prices because 60 series will be "around the corner."

great price, but a friend who worked at best buy from 2012-2019 always recommended to avoid MSI, because he had access to the returns database and saw that MSI was the highest return for issues/problems.
not sure if MSI is different today.+

Very good price for gaming as others have mentioned. I wanted to add 4080 laptop gpu is lower performance than 4080 desktop gpu. Just incase some didnt know. Still an excellent price for mobile gamers

Kind of amazing to see this 4080 (175W) GPU for under $1500. This laptop will deliver high levels of CPU and GPU performance at the cost of poor battery life and possibly fan noise. RAM is upgradeable and there are dual NVMe (SSD) slots.

I agree that the FHD screen is an odd choice with the CPU/GPU combination, so definitely consider an external monitor if you don't already have one.

I only found one thorough review and it wasn't as thorough as I would have liked. It focused mainly on software benchmarks and glossed over many of the hardware components. The reviewer seemed generally impressed by this MSI Vector Laptop's keyboard and track pad as well as its performance.

Review:
https://www.tweaktown.com/reviews...index.html

I noticed that the review didn't cover fan noise/cooling or battery life of this laptop and I would expect those to be weak points for a laptop like this, but I don't expect that you're looking at a laptop like this for it's portability. The cooling could be adequate given the heat pipe setup and copious amounts of venting.

If you want a very powerful 1440 or 4k gaming laptop with a 4080 and you want it right now, then this is the best price I've seen on a machine with these specs.

I'm not pushing the limits of my 4070 with a 1440 screen and an AMD 7880HS with my gaming at the moment, and so I'm happy to wait and see what happens as we get closer to the 5000 series of GPUs release.

I frequently visit laptop community and anecdotally there are still more people complaining about MSI build quality and warranty than lenovo/asus for sure
but only refurb 4080 predators come to this price range which have pretty serious issue on its own(getting voltage locked with intel CPU sucks bad) so no other choices for getting 4080 laptop on budget now

jarrod on YT has pretty thorough review from 2023, he likes build quality and performance/price but hates shitty display, lack of advanced optimus, massive power brick, and weird fan speed bug. most of weaknesses could be mitigated if the use case is desktop replacement with external main monitor

Stop posting illogical comments on every other deal. We've seen you do this on every Snapdragon based laptops and now this.
The 5000 chip excuse is outdated and useless now because they the mobile versions of those won't be available in the market for the masses until March or Q3 2025.

AMD processors may have well outrun Intel but the GPUs are still behind. You expect to play AAA, modern and/or future titles, do heavy rendering and data work, on an RTX 3060?
And what is even the point of "it's only 12GB VRAM"? RTX 3080 was 12GB too. 12GB VRAM at this price is huge.

Stop trolling and on every other thread. Thanks.
