Amazon has this same model for $850.

Why pay $150 more?
That's a refurbished model.

They already did. This deal is for the M3, the M4 w/ a minimum of 16GB is already out:

Apple greed, intentionally low base model storage to get you to climb their price ladder

What's up with the entry-level, lowest-cost Costco product not having all the features?

The displays on these computers are amazing. And you can use Thunderbolt to add all the storage you want. It's the memory that's the limitation, but for web surfing and office productivity, this model is fine.

The is the opposite of a good deal. The just released entry level M4 iMac with 16GB RAM is $1300, and that's if you pay full price at Apple. It can be had for less. The real deal killer with this M3 version is the 8GB RAM which was already low, but with Apple Intelligence gradually getting weaved into Mac OS it will become unusable very soon. It's why Apple bumped up it's min RAM in the M4 models to 16GB from 8GB.

Also the M4 Air will be released in March/April. So you could wait for that too and just add a cheap monitor to it. I wouldn't worry about on-board storage. 256GB is plenty to store and run apps. Then just get a 1TB SSD for $75 to store media locally.

8GB is a bad, fat NO going into 2025. And even Apple agrees; as all of their latest machines come with 16GB standard now.
