It will be faster, but with reduced NVMe storage and RAM well it depends on your use case. 32gb is always better than 16gb. I have the same thing but m1pro 16gb/512 and I paid $1600 for it so this is comparably a better deal two years later. You m4 version probably 2x the cost so mid to high $2k to replicate RAM/storage.

If I were you I would just keep it the m1 pro rig you have is quite fast and powerful. If it suits your needs then this machine isn't really offering anything stupidly better. I'm going to wait until they flush out AI more and then see if it makes sense to upgrade.

I got lucky that Best Buy had these on sale for $1299 the week of Black Friday. Cyber Monday I checked and they had them for this price $1399. I would've been P*SSED if I'd waited.

Are you sure? I was monitoring prices, and I don't think they ever went down to $1299

Can you confirm? I was going to buy at $1399 but will hold off and wait if $1299 is an option
I've also been obsessively researching this model and haven't seen the $1,299 price unless it was an open box or involved a GC, price match, etc. Can anyone else confirm they've purchased this brand new for $1,299?

I got this one for the same price during BF from Costco,
So far so good, the best decision ever over MBA M3 16/512 even if cost a couple $ more.
Screen. Battery, ports, card reader - hands down.

Shit my bad guys, I went back and verified...I snagged it at $1399 that week. It bounced back to $1499 on Cyber Monday, and I was relieved I got it $100 cheaper. #oldguymemoryproblems

1300 for 16gb of ram and 500gb of storage????? Lmfaooooooooo
I don't understand these stupid Apple fans for all the down thumbs for a genuine concern. They are charging a premium price and still giving a meager 16GB, imagine if a Windows deal gets bashed you get a thumbs up.
I use Windows, and Apple products, it is just that I am not a stupid fan of anything.

It's not a "genuine concern." It's trolls and Apple haters always posting dumb sh*t in every Apple-related thread that goes Frontpage.

Everyone knows Apple charges ridiculous prices to upgrade storage and RAM. No need to keep harping on it and reminding people, but trolls and haters always chime in with their stupidity in every popular Apple thread on Slickdeals.

If you want/need more RAM and storage, then spend more money on it. Don't buy an Apple product and expect to get the equivalent amount of RAM and storage at Windows laptop prices. You're paying more for top tier build quality, Apple's ecosystem, the Apple brand name, and the best resell & trade-in value of any electronic device.

It is still a stupidity, if you don't want to agree that's fine.
I own Apple products, and I agree on quality, but then again lots of other brands are also coming up with the same quality product, my Lenovo Carbon X1 from 2018 still running fine, and so is my Apple MacBook Pro. The point is paying for something exceptional good is fine, paying for something that isn't exceptional just being stupid is another thing: good day, and Happy Holidays.
Regarding trolls and haters, show me one deal where everyone is happy and not being trolled or hate comments.

I picked the M3 16GB/1TB for $1299, as I couldn't justify paying $100 more, and ending up with literally half the storage. Yeah, a couple of nice features on the M4, but not worth giving up the storage and paying more.

Fark Apple, can someone tell them RAM and Storage are very cheap now, they are not in the early 2000s anymore, and for this premium price, it should at least have 24GB RAM and 1TB SSD.
Nah. Why do it, Most Aaptards will upgrade from base specs. I am happy as a stock holder that these upgrades are expensive. :-)

I currently have a M1 Macbook Pro with 32GB of Ram and 1TB HD.

Would this be a better/faster machine? With less ram!?
M4 is going to be faster for video encoding and very specific develpoment

M1 with 32/1TB is overall a better machine for most task
