Would definitely help to add some extra info on the description.

This may be a dumb question but could I just take a rod, drill a hole through it, and hang something like the hercules 5k lumen spotlight to replicate this? Or do these lights do anything special?

It's just a light with a high quality tripod that folds into a convenient portable design. Not worth it unless you have a specific need for this style. I just use a regular Dewalt light that was like $30 from some SD because I don't have a specific need for needing it at a certain height often. This is much brighter than mine on its highest setting though.

I have this light and use it all the time. I don't have much lighting around my house so it's been great for quick projects/repairs. If I want to wash my car at night it works for that too. I also use it camping (dispersed). 10/10 recommend.
