They had something similar last year and you could bypass the limit by making a second TurboTax account. But this time you have to file before Feb and that's kinda hard.

It also let you efile multiple states for free.

Filling taxes is not that easy to do on mobile app, need computer.
If it's that simple then don't need TurboTax.

So, if you already filed last year using a desktop Turbotax app, can I still use this for this year? I wouldn't mind getting it for free. I need the premier version because I have stock sales, have kids, etc. My only concern would be if I will get all the 1099s back from all my financial institutions before 2/18.

the only people that this would work for are the people that have minimal paperwork (tax-wise) to file already.
Most likely will not work if:
you own a house(s)
you have investments
you make considerable charity donations
you are self employed
you have work deductions
and the list goes on and on

There are already numerous free options for the people that would qualify, turbo tax is simply trying to corner the market and make it stupidly simple when it already is.

Pointless…there's no way one can file taxes by 2/18 unless they are doing basic returns

I think this is doable. It would be a short window. Most financial institutions get you your documents by February 15th. Even if you have more complex situations if you are willing to file that weekend you can.

It also states that you have to start and file on the app, but you can do all of the actual work on your computer if you want to.

Turbotax will let you file your taxes for (including state and other complex tax situations such as rental income, crypto) if:

1. You did not file with Turbotax in 2023
2. You MUST file using their app
3. You MUST file before 2/18/2024

You can also opt out of their optional services without affecting your ability to file for free. You will find these optional services and data sharing options when you start the process… simply opt out.

I am not a fan of any paid tax filing software, especially TT but nothing beats free. I did go ahead and start the process with the mobile app. Its not half bad when working with W2s, 1099 MISC/INT/C stuff so far. They do have annoying upsells at various points but you can ignore them and still fet it done for free. My tax is complicated with multi state income for both. Itemized deductions, energy credits, rentals, foreign income etc. So I was happy to see that all this was free.

I use Cash App taxes which is free but only if you have single state income tax and I am not sure if it does rental properties.

Pointless. Literally if you have 1 W2 you can file. Anything else, paid version it is. It's all marketing..
