I keep a heavy duty utility knife in the garage next to my recycling bin for if I just have a couple boxes but around times like now (holidays) with lots of boxes or for bigger boxes it's awesome.
With bigger boxes (think TV box) it works well cause it's unwieldy for me to hold it and cut with a utility knife. With this I can stand it up on the ground vertically and make a cut with the tool starting from the top and cutting straight down to the ground. Might not be describing it that great but it works better than a utility knife and I'm >6 feet (saying that cause I have a long reach), relatively youngish guy without physical limitations so would be even better for someone who can't lift much or has some arthritis or something like that.
