I think getting a new card at MSRP on launch will be very unlikely. A more reasonable expectation would be a few months after launch. Also, a lot of people seem to think AMD is going to price their new top card at $500 but it will perform at 7900xtx levels for raster but significantly outperform it in RTX.
This would be a 50% price to performance value increase, and AMD is simply not going to do it. AMD is in businesses to make as much profit as possible, not hookup gamers with good deals.
Got this several weeks ago from Amazon for $765 on a VERY short-lived deal been holding onto it with a January extended return date - but there's been absolutely no deals of any kind until now. The 24GB RAM on it will certainly aid my work upscaling old videos, better than my 7800xt with 16GB RAM. Don't think the new cards will be available before my return window closes and as most believe, if you can get one early, the prices, no matter what the rumors are, will be high.

I also remember when unboxing it that it felt like there was a distinct lack of seals, pci covers, peels or anything indicating the product hadn't been used/returned. I suspect the reason this card keeps going on sale in waves is because they're reboxing returns from after every sale and not labeling them open box. Every other gpu I've bought has had an obnoxious amount of peels and seals. This would be easy to use for a bit and return at the end of a return window.
Guaranteed they're reboxed returns AND used. This has become the norm. nod

Unless you need 24GB of VRAM, I'd wait for RDNA4 9070 XT to be announced in 2 weeks

Until consumers can collectively realize that "their dollar is their vote" and stop paying insane prices, then yes, why would a company in business to make profit willingly reduce said prices when they completely own the market?

That's pretty much how market pricing works, isn't it? The price is adjusted to whatever people are "willing" to pay. And for some reason, people have been indoctrinated and continue to willingly pay $800, $1000, $2000, or more for those upper tiers.

And yet, there will be so many blind apologists who "stand up" and defend nVidia like it's their dearest family member. No bro, they just want your cash.

Hoping to get 3-4 hundred for my 3080. We'll see. Going off eBay sold prices.
Try trading in via Newegg. Might work out to the same amount after ebay fees etc without the risk.

Well some of us need a card sooner rather than 2 years from now. There just isn't enough competition in this space for most consumers to put pressure. If you want to play the hottest video game now then you are sort of stuck.

According to AMD and rumors, improvements in ray-tracing but not much else, with the performance ceiling set at mid-tier. The pricing will be interesting to see. But, given that AMD appears to plan on using the same XX50, XX60, XX70 naming scheme that Nvidia uses, something tells me they might try to match Nvidia's prices for each tier while using the deceptive naming scheme to trick consumers into buying their GPUs. I hope I'm wrong.

I downgraded my 4090 pc to a used pc with 7900xt (not xtx) and i was really surprised by its performance. I got arpund 27000 on timespy gpu score, and when OC'd and stable, about 31500. But i bought the whole pc setup with 5800x 32gb ram 4tb nvme for 850 2 months ago. And sold my 7800x3d 4090 for 2350 3 months ago. And i'm gonna wait for a deal many months later to upgrade, in the mean time for my 4k gaming needs this system is still a beast, and i was surprised really. I had almost given up on amd gpus because of so much bad rep that influencers overhype it etc. But I'm happy.

But of course if you can wait for now

I don't mean to argue, friend, so please don't take me the wrong way. I understand where you're coming from, but if you feel you "need" to fork over cash because you "want" to play "the hottest video game" *now*, then they've got you right where they want you, don't they?

The 9070 XT will trade blows with the 7900 GRE in raster with 7900 XT raytracing performance at $550. Anything higher, it will not sell. There's a reason AMD recently discontinued the GRE. As for nVidia, I've lost all hope of them coming back down to earth.

I'm not getting younger, most online games are fun when the fan base is strong, waiting what would be years just isn't realistic. So yes they have the upper hand. Lots of companies have the upper hand bc people don't live forever.

never by electronics like like this from amazon. too much re-circulated junk there. go somewhere you can buy or warranty or at least take back to the store personally.

IMHO - not a huge fan of this card right now, even at $800 it's basically in line with the Geforce 4080 Super in raster performance with more but slower GDDR6 VRAM, but it is significantly slower in Ray Tracing (Geforce 4070 levels) which at this price point is a feature differentiator worth considering. These are also pokey for rendering tasks in things like Blender (like Geforce 3080 levels) which really makes this a pretty focused use case for someone who wants to game on a card with lots of VRAM for texture packs and doesn't care about productivity work or Ray Tracing in games. I have seen more "Driver timeout" issues with the 7900xt/xtx cards I've demoed than the more budget focused AMD Radeon designs in the x600/700 series. Coil whine has been an issue in every Powercolor Radeon card I've tested in the 6000/7000 series, though this can be somewhat subjective and use-case specific. Nvidia cards also seem to hold their value better over time than the AMD Radeon cards and are easier to sell in flip systems.

I'm not a brand loyalist, but I consider the Geforce 4080 Super at $999 to be obscene and this is fundamentally AMD's entry at the same performance class, but with some key features stripped away compared to the Nvidia offering. Honestly for just a 20% "discount" I don't think the sacrifices in driver quality or higher end features to be worthwhile... AMD needs a reality check on how they price their cards, Nvidia doesn't really care about the gaming space as they can sell their silicon for higher margins in the pro/AI space.... I'd skip anything at this point and wait until the next gen cards from both Nvidia and AMD launch unless you absolutely need to buy something right now to see how the prices settle out. Yes, the possibility of tariffs are on the horizon but the Intel Battle Mage cards are also proving there is a lot of unmet interest in high value cards so pricing could be better this generation if the bigs decide to adjust course as the discrete GPU market overall continues to shrink.

Really hoping the new Radeon cards are priced to be more competitive instead of just coat tailing Nvidia on pricing, as Nvidia has done a great job making things arbitrarily more expensive in the past few generations of cards and shows no signs of slowing down on this strategy while AMD simply lets their GPU market share shrink by shipping fewer/higher margin cards and leaving Intel to start gobbling up the budget end of the market.

Sorry if I've hurt your feelings, but you haven't been following the news, and perhaps you are not as cynical as me. This is coming from a Team Red fella.

While I am the proud owner of a full AMD system, I am also under no illusion that AMD is not my friend and will do everything in its power, ethical or not, to sell stuff--just like Intel, Nvidia, and others do.
