I like the look of the red devil over the hellhound. I like this price over the 7900xtx price.....decisions decisions.

This is a great card but I don't think I'd make that upgrade. If you need the vram for AI then Maybee, but otherwise I'd wait till next gen. The 4070 is limited on vram but still a pretty capable card.

i would not, but only because it's not enough of a difference to be worth the $ and time. the old rule of every 3 years or 3 generations, whichever is longer, is still a pretty good one.

my upgrade history IIRC (can you figure out how old I am?)
- riva128 + s3
- voodoo2 + matrox millenium
- 9800gt
- gtx 460
- gtx 670
- gtx 770 (GALAX sent me this one under warranty when the 670 died)

Looking at this comparison to my ASRock 6950, I think I can wait for an 8k series. I thought the Red Devil series was much higher end than ASRock but guess not.

Have a 3070 and am generally happy with it but realize that an upgrade is in my near future.

With that said is a 7800xt enough of an upgrade at roughly $470 or do I need to step up to this to see enough of an upgrade to make it worth it?

I sold my 3070 myself recently and just ordered this one last night as a placeholder for the 9070xt or maybe 5070ti. Doesn't arrive until after the announcement at the earliest.

I'm in the same exact boat. Also wondering when the best time to sell the 3070 to maximize $… waiting for new cards to be released will drive selling costs of the 3070 even lower. Not sure

These comparisons are from 2 years ago, and the plain 3070 isn't even on the chart, but it's significantly better than the 3070 ti in average fps performance. The 3070 ti had matured drivers by then, and I'm sure by now the 7900 XT has better drivers and performance than then..

I like to wait two gens to upgrade myself. 30-series to 7k is only one gen. I like to see 2x performance for the same tier.

7800XT is about 10% faster than a 3080.

A 3080 is a good bit faster than a 3070.

I'd suggest buying a used 3080 or 6800XT or 6900XT. Or buy this. It is a very good card.
