State e-file (unless for NY) they always charge extra. From my understanding TT is the same way. It's easy to avoid, just print the state return instead and file it by mail. Or some states (like mine) operate their own free e-file website, so I just "print" it as a PDF, log onto my state's e-file website, copy down the numbers from the PDF and submit. Takes 5 minutes or so.

Another data point: Deluxe + State was $14.99 ($34.99 - $20 gift card) in early January 2024 from Newegg. I think there were a few gift card options - Home Depot, Starbux, etc.

The last several years I have bought the year end deal and then the price kept dropping starting in February. There is one form that doesn't show up for me until April, so going to hold out this year.

I just now bought the Premium version, which today was "on sale" at $42.49. So after the 15% CB makes it essentially $36.12.
Note that Amazon's prices on the other versions weren't as good though.

It's the official IRS website where you can fill out the form and file your federal taxes. Essentially a barebone version of H&R block and turbo tax.

But it doesn't do state taxes so not that useful for most people.

Wow!!! I had no idea I could do that. I got a new PC and was able to move tax returns but I couldn't get the software (newegg) and I thought they were lost. Thank you very much!!!

What were the bugs, and what led you to suspect the tax computation was incorrect? I always assumed that it was correct, maybe my bad.

Last year specifically I had frustration with not allowing efile with SEHID and ACA PTC. Worked fine in years past

I have been using their software for years and have been received a state paper audit the past two years for the filing several years prior. There is apparently a known defect with the software for their multi state filing (NY and NJ, in my case) where the calculation is underpaying one of the states. I called since their say they offer support and a money back guarantee on satisfaction. They told me they were aware of the defect and it is a known issue that has been in the program for apparently 4 years (based upon my audit years and their acknowledgment that it has not yet been fixed). I was told I should hire an accountant to recalculate and file amended returns and that this was not covered by their satisfaction guarantee. Absolutely no apology for selling a product with a known defect for at least 4 years, nor any help in having the error created by their program corrected. I complained multiple times over phone and email with no reply back. I am not a satisfied customer of this product. 2 years of audits caused by a "known bug" they have not yet fixed, and it seems several more years of audits yet to come. I am going to try another software this year. Does anyone know of a program that handles multi-state filing accurately?

How long have you been doing your own taxes? I ask because those seem like significant errors in the program, if true. Alternatively, is it possible you didn't fully understand the tax code?
