I have had ricers in the past that required quite a bit of strength and placed strain on the portion of the handle right before the head. Usually toss them before they break and hurt someone. Even the metal versions are like this with the metal bending due to being too thin. That is with fully cooked veggies. Worth a try to see if the gears help.

I've tried 3 different brands including oxo, which is what I currently have, and they all bend with use...
The price doesn't matter to me anymore if the product sucks... This actually looks like the best I've seen.

That said, I got mine last year for $21, so that price is a bit easier to swallow than $35
I use this one, all metal. Feels heavy duty metal. There's no gears to help you though, but when pressing down the potatoes, there's nothing that feels is weakening. Obviously I boiled the potatoes first.
