Careful buying a used router that could have a backdoor in the firmware for hackers...
20 devices seems remarkably low
Except this router isn't supported by OpenWRT...

Yeah... that's absurd. I wonder if that was suppose to be 200 instead of 20.

Can you update to ddwrt firmware?
Nope. There is no open source firmware available for this router and probably never will be.

But how used are they? Like super used or barely used?
You can tell from the amount of scratches and dents it has. A super used one would have deep scratches and big dents all over the place. If it was dragged behind a car, you can tell it would look like a total disaster

Just install OpenWRT if you are paranoid.
These are excellent router. And I did ran it in bridge mode with stock firmware without any issue. OpenWRT works really well if you want more control.
This router is not in the list of supported openwrt hw. In other words, openwrt is not supported on this model of the router

I flashed Fresh Tomato on my R6700 v3 and use it as an AP. Currently in the market for another one that is compatible.

The AX routers are a different breed than the base R6700. That being said does anyone know if it supports VLAN tagging on all ports? Seems to me it does based on the instruction manual.

Yeah, there's nothing you could possibly do to know. The cosmetics are nearly useless for knowing. It could look brand new and be used for three years without a break or scratched up and hardly used. Amazon return policy is there for you. That's it.

so you can get the latest backdoor?
the argument was "careful buying a used router that could have a backdoor", implying used router was injected with unofficial with backdoor. thus your answer is completely irrelevant.

I have Xfinity with their modem/router. I purchased a pair Linksys velop routers that I discovered after the fact they can't run at the same time as my Xfinity router, so I would have to put that in bridge mode. I haven't done that yet. We just got a Quest 3 and wanted to do wireless steam and found an $80 router specific for that, would this be just as good? What about the Linksys system I have? Would it be better to put my Xfinity router in bridge mode and use the two Linksys routers setup the mesh and use with the quest?

This is the answer I was looking for. The manufactures have an urge pump out newer models and stop supporting older versions. They stop giving security updates like they're cell phone companies. This hardware could last much longer than 1-5 years "generous" update cycle manufactures provide. That's one reason to look for OpenWRT firmware support because it's maintained firmware.

OpenWRT made their own relatively inexpensive hardware but it's been perpetually out of stock.

Considering routers usually sit untouched in the corner somewhere most of their life, I wouldn't worry too much of how used up it is

Once disconnected or rebooted this has hard time connecting to internet in bridge mode through my xfinity modem. Have to do a complete factory reset of router and setup. What would take a 5 mins reboot and connect becomes 30 min set up again. Have had this router for at least 4 years and only issue starter this past year
