If you're in the market for a 'shopvac', wait for the Dewalt STEALTHSONIC 12gal or 16gal to go on sale. IMHO, they're the best vacs on the market right now. They're amazingly quiet.

You mean the shopvacs that cost about 10x more than this one does? Are they 10x better??

ETA: Looks like the 16 gallon can be had for about $180, so only 5x.

where is the exhaust port of thing thing? is it possible to put a diffuser on it? (so it doesn't end up blowing away everything light in my garage during use)

Does this take common Shop Vac size and style filters? The photos make it look like it does.

My Ridgid in the garage workshop takes its own special proprietary filters. I still have a shelf full of old Shop Vac filters and a Shop Vac in the basement that's on its last legs.

The 9 gallon is $89 right now as linked above. I think it may be 2.25x better assuming 9 gallons suits your needs but to each their own. It depends how often you use it and if you're using it in confined areas with no sound absorption (like my basement).

9-12 gallons is probably the sweet spot for most homeowners anyway, 16 gallons is enormous.
