Great Clips is $23-28 in SF bay area so this is a great deal for me.

Because they get paid well, the hair stylists are generally pretty decent.

----

For those who are wondering, they get paid the minimum wage ($15) plus tips so they probably make $30+ an hour

It worked for me. $18 haircut for $10. South Florida.

Keep on going until you find a great hair stylist. Then go strictly to that one from then on.

For those who already got the $10 coupon now, is the expiration date shown 1/31/2025 or does the coupon expire sooner?

Typically Great Clips only gives you a few weeks and the expiration date is based on when you get the coupon, so I want to make sure I have all of January if I get the coupon now.

I just requested the coupon when I saw your question and it shows the 31st as the expiration date in my email.

I wonder if the requirement of an email address means the days of getting a coupon by just clicking a button are gone. Then they'll probably not give you any more future coupons for the same email address. It'll be interesting to see if the Gmail .+ trick will work then.

I remember when a basic cut cost you 5-6 bucks with tips. Now they want 20 bucks to do the same shit. Wtf

During covid I bought a pair of Cordless clipper and cut my own hair now. Can't believe wasted so much money for 5 minutes of work
I don't understand why they need a tip to begin with when it's a 10-minute job and they're getting paid hourly already. I'm tired of tipping culture. The modern argument for tipping is that it's to offset workers making $2 an hour while keeping prices cheap. But what good is it when many of the workers are making $12+ an hour and the prices aren't cheap?

Worked for me just now.

Utah county.

Kinda had to hope because they said there was no way to verify until ringing it up at the end. Then again, the stylist admitted she's not "a techie person."

If you're actually in SF there are shops that only charge $10 for a haircut in Chinatown and I would say some are equivalent to a Great Clips haircut. I just went with my 2 boys. Paid $30 for all 3 and tipped them $10. I even found a $8 place, but would not recommend it lol...
whats the name of the place you went to?

It's not that hard to understand honestly. It's in the culture. It's like questioning the culture. Yes, it's not entirely logical, but that's how it is in the service industry across America, at least for now.

Employers know it and pay low accordingly.

Employees know it and hope (expect) a tip to make up for the no to low wages.

Customers know it but they may or may not accept it. As a customer, you can either:
1. Understand the tip is part of the cost and give the tip happily.
2. Understand the tip is part of the cost and give the tip grudgingly.
3. Do not give tip and try to use the excuse that it's illogical and that employers should be paying it.
4. Do not get the service that entails tipping.

I personally think that the tipping system is weird and flawed. I try to not use delivery service or such that can be avoided. But if and when i use a service that require tipping, i tip happily, at least the minimum per societal norms.

As for why they "need a tip" while making $12+/hr, well, try doing the math and think about living (surviving) at $12/hr and it's not that hard to understand why one would need/hope/wish for more than that to help make ends meet. Like you said, "prices aren't cheap"!

Pro tip for men and some women. If you wear a wife beater and sweet talk your stylist they will whack your back too. Probably regional but worth a shot.
