Because they get paid well, the hair stylists are generally pretty decent.

For those who are wondering, they get paid the minimum wage ($15) plus tips so they probably make $30+ an hour
Keep on going until you find a great hair stylist. Then go strictly to that one from then on.

The SoCal prices are now $26 thanks to the state minimum wage going up to $16.50 per hour on Jan.1. I've started using my own clippers and then going into the salon and pay for a "neck trim" at $8. Works well enough to keep the need to pay full price down to 3 or 4 times a year.
P.S. Minimum wage for a fast food worker is now $20/hour. That means you can make $40.000/yr flipping burgers! Welcome to California crazy.
