Amazing author. While it's not my favorite of her series, it's still quite good.

My library has the series in Libby for free, so be sure to check your local library.

I read her "The Broken Earth" trilogy. She has a common trait shared with Anne McCafferty/Pern and Frank Herbert/Dune - she switches back and forth between Fantasy, Weird Fiction, and hard SF within a series that can make reading them a challenge, as a series. I have to grant that whichever way she spins the backdrop, she is so talented that she can pull it off.

What is the book going to be this time can be irritating when you sit down expecting a sequel, but instead you are going from a big idea fantasy to an SF underpinning that is "sufficiently advanced science". I don't know if she switches back and forth in this series as radically as she did in "The Broken Earth" trilogy.

I rather enjoyed the blending of genres, it's all speculative fiction anyway. The Inheritance trilogy is mostly fantasy, at least to me.

Amazing writer. I love her The Broken Earth series, which is some of the best sci-fi fantasy writing of all time. I tried and did not get into this series, though. I'll try again later.

Haven't read her other books but loved the mixing of different genre elements in this one. Didn't enjoy the rest of the series as much.

I doubt it. Her other books have a lot of profanity, F-bombs, graphic sex scenes, straight and gay group sex, etc.

Totally agree. Broken Earth trilogy is probably the greatest science fiction I've read, and I've read a lot. The quality of writing, the world building, the characters, the themes. It's so well done. The Inheritance trilogy feels like a different writer. Like she was feeding a bunch of her ideas to a lesser writer or something. I made it about halfway through the third book by sheer will and I can't go any further

It's more for a 15+ crowd, I'd say, and even at 15, they better be smart. This is not YA fiction. I don't remember sex in the series, if that's what you're worried about. Plenty of violence and suffering though. An 11-year-old would just be confused.

Thank! He completed The Way of Kings and Mistborn series. I ran out of stuff for him to read. He's not mature enough to understand the sex stuff. Violence is fine as he plays shooting video games with me .
