This is a very simplified explanation, but should be good enough for government work, as the saying goes.

You have two basic types of VPNs. PPTP and "full" VPNs like Windscribe. PPTP VPNs tend to be faster because there's less going on and they don't offer as much privacy by way of encryption. "Full" VPNs offer much better encryption and thus privacy but that obviously requires more processing power which can result in slower speeds. That's on top of all the usual things that can cause performance issues with networks the size of the Internet.

You also have to accept that a VPN is going to generally slow things down a little. You use it because you don't want your ISP building an advertising profile of you from your browsing history and selling it to anyone willing to pay the asking price or things of that nature. That all said, Windscribe has been working to both increase their server footprint and upgrade some of the nodes to 10Gbps connections.

I've been using Windscribe since I snagged one of their lifetime deals several years ago. They don't even offer them anymore. For the most part, I am pretty happy with the performance of Windscribe. The past few days it's been kind of slow, but it's a blip over the span of several years. Probably just a lot of new customers and existing customers who got new computers, game consoles or something and they're temporarily saturating the network. They've also had issues with people reselling access to their accounts and, in at least one case, using like 7.5PB of data in a single month. They're starting to crack down on that, but it could also very well explain why you've been having poor access speeds.

If you take everything together, Windscribe probably ranks as one of the best VPN providers out there.
Info posted by someone else (SEKI19) in the previous deal

1) Login to your Windscribe account
2) Navigate to this page: https://windscribe.com/upgrade?cp...d=features
3) Click the green button for 'Have a promo code?' and then enter your code. It will add the years to your existing account.

Huge fan of Windscribe VPN. It really is one of (if not) the best VPN provider between reliability, speed, and privacy.

Techlore's comparison guide on VPNs really highlights the strengths of Windscribe (and the weakness of other providers).

I have the lifetime sub and I have been really happy with the service. I mostly connect to the servers on the west coast. A few times when I used the locations in Asia and EU, it worked flawlessly.

Maybe I'm just dumb, but I can't seem to find out how to redeem it on my existing account. It seems like the stack social link takes you to the signup page if you're not logged in, with a place to redeem the code, but if you're logged in, it takes you to the account page where there's no place to redeem it?
Hi, great question. Yes, StackSocial forces you to sign in to see your Promo Code (which they call a voucher). Once you access and copy it, you sign in to your Windscribe subscription and input it by pressing the "Have a promo code?" button under the Pricing section.

It looks like nothing happens, but if you check your subscription, you should see another 3 years added (depending on which plan your purchase).

Wait....what about Window 11? Does it still work?
It works fine on Win11. I'm using it right now on 24H2. It's just some old ad copy that someone forgot to update. I also think they dropped support for XP and Vista around the same time Microsoft did. You can probably still use older client versions if you're dumb enough to connect computers running those OS versions to the Internet, but they don't test the newer client versions with those OS versions so maybe they work, maybe they don't.

As a general rule, if you see something that says it works with a previous version of Windows, it will work with newer ones as well. Especially if we're talking the last major release, like if something works with Windows 10 it's all but guaranteed to work with Windows 11.

Any other vpn with faster speed? I had experience with surfshark and Windscribe and I can say surfshark has faster vpn compare to Windscribe. I am like getting 20-40 mbps on best location.
I have NordVPN I got from G2A for $34 2 year memberships. I bought 3 of them. So I now have NordVPN unlimited until 2030. The codes stack under the same account.

Nord is amazingly fast to connect/disconnect on mobile devices and Apple TV. Honestly amazing. I get speed at or near link speed on some nearby servers. I have 500Mbps home internet. Nord soeedtest shows about 400-500 Mbps. Cannot complain so far.

Me too! I fell for that. I thought it'd be good. Terribly awful. Horrible. Sucks so much. Basically useless. And I will virtually throw away that account cause I'll never used it again lol.

I switched to NordVPN for similar price and boy the difference it is for speed, latency and etc. super happy now.

Got three years last year. Been with them since 2016 when they offered 50 or 60GB free per month.

I use them mainly for torrenting, never ran in to issues with my ISP with them. And they seem to have, at worst, a decent reputation. People keep mentioning Mulvad but this works just fine for me and is always on sale.

For some strange reason Floridans are jumping on this rather quickly.

Does anyone know if Windscribe offers an Windows ARM-compatible client? I'm having to use a workaround for Nord while they work on their ARM compatible app.

I've been a paid user of Windscribe since 2019 and I just used this deal successfully. My expiration date was February 2025 and now it's 2028.
