Not a particularly good deal. Travel inside Thailand is cheap. You can easily find a hotel in a great location for under $100 per night. Or rent the equivalent of a nice AirBnb for under $50 per night. You can get massages from a top-reviewed massage parlor for $25 per hour or more typical massage establishment for $10 per hour.

I live half time US and other half Thailand. This is not really a very good deal. You can stay in really nice places for very little in Thailand.
Please, tell me more good sir!

Phuket is nice and the costs of hotel and foods are low. But the airport is too far. It costs $100 for taxi to go to airport
Sorry to hear you got ripped off.

A taxi from the airport to Phuket (town) is 800 baht (~$24).

It's 1000 baht to Kata, where this resort is located, which is further away than downtown Phuket.

People hating on this deal because they have experience with Thailand, what about those who dont have any experience? People like it when someone else arranges everything and dont have to worry about anything. People who never been might find more comfort in a planned trip rather winging it. Seems like everyone is an expert who has been lol
I have been and they're still wrong. I'm going for 2.5 weeks next fall and 7 days in a luxury resort with meals (set menu, not buffet, for dinner and lunch with multiple restaurant options), drinks and activities will be a great way to finish the last week of the trip and relax before the 20 hour flight home.

It's not like you're chained to the resort. They have shuttles to Patong and Phuket Town. The times are kind of short, but you can always stay out and take a taxi back for $8.

If this a one-off bucket list trip for you, then yeah, by all means, go more places and see the world. But after a week and half traversing southeastern Asia, I'll be looking forward to the easy stay.

This is a bad deal. You can stay home, order Thai Food, go to the local Massage Envy, and watch NatGeo bio's on Thailand.

Wordup.
Damn. Why didn't you tell me this earlier? Could have saved thousands on the flights alone. Hell, there's a dirt cheap Chinese massage parlor like three blocks from me. I could walk and not even have to pay for gas!

For the people saying this is not a SlickDeal, be specific on the alternatives. This deal is all-inclusive resort and is beachfront. $231/night to stay and eat three meals for four people seems pretty good. For context, I just spent $135 for a dinner for four at Olive Garden (you know you secretly like it).
um, i liked olive garden when i was a starving college student... fill up on breadsticks and salad, then take the entree home. but havent been back since!

Always thought of Thailand as a sex tourism hub. Honest question...Is it really worth visiting as a couple?

Overpriced. 4* hotels are around $20/night. Transport is $2 a lift. Food is $2 a meal.

I love Thailand, but I would never go to Phuket again unless you are a single old male.

I am not sure what you will do by the beach for 7 days and night. There is lot of do in Thailand than just phukhet. 7 days beach, Mexico and Caribbean might be closer and cheaper.

Thousands of Chinese speaking people (China, Taiwan) were kidnapped from Thailand to Burma into cyberscam slave camps along Thai-Burma border. A recent high profile kidnapping resulted in mass cancelations from Chinese tourists. This certainly drives down demand in the market, and, prices.

yeah, it is really dirty; stinky too. Stinks too with some really bad smell: not sure if it is some bad rotten spice or just too many people leaving too much dirt. I would stay away from it as much as possible.

Thanks for the great tips, and glad you and your family escaped!

Quote from Sarisin48 :
Not necessarily at this resort, but downtown and elsewhere in Phuket and the surrounding islands Russian language skills are very helpful. ;-) BTW it's hard to believe that this past Dec 26 marked the marked 20 years since that terrible earthquake in Banda Aceh and the subsequent tsunami. I was living and working in BKK then and not a good time to be there. Thankfully, they have greatly improved their tsunami warning system since then. Thailand is a great country (my wife is Thai and I lived and worked there 13 years), but personally there are so many wonderful things to see and do there other than spending time in a luxury resort in Phuket, but that is just my opinion - many love the tourist scene there. We use Qatar Airlines now to fly to/from BKK from Phila with a short layover in Doha. An excellent airline!
