It's for docking the showerhead, so instead of having a separate fixed showerhead and handshower, it docks magnetically as a fixed showerhead, and you just pull it off to use as a handshower.

See the third picture.

Will the magnets ever lose their magnetism over time? Would not want to have the showerheads suddenly dropping on my head one day.

We have had this exact model for several years and the magnet is as strong as ever. It is unusual for magnets to stop being magnetic in general, unless they had a weak charge to start.

The good thing about Moen magnetix is they sell remote docks so that it's easy for kids or for dog bathing.

Does the Eco Performance have noticeably less water flow than a regular shower head? And if so, is it easily fixable by removing the restrictor?

Can confirm what the rabbit said - I believe ours is 3+ yrs old. Can't remember if mom has a similar one. If so, that's at least 7yrs old.

Have this exact model for 3-4 years now.

Slight leak out of the side of the handle but not enough to replace it. Other than that no complaints.

I have a similar Moen but unlike this one it has more points where leaks have developed. Enough to replace it in my case.

Water pressure is great, magnet docking is convenient and easy to use, hose is long enough to bathe kids and dogs, easy to hose off the shower area. Plus, Moen has a lifetime warranty with good customer service. Good price for a name brand fixture.

I have one similar with the button to change the spray mode. The back part that screws onto the house pipe has broken twice. Moen first time replaced the whole unit, then second time just replaced the back piece that swivels. Don't over tighten these. Just a heads up.
