Folic acid is a supplement form of Folate, which is a key b vitamin nutrient used in building the body. It one of the key nutrients where lack will lead to anemia, with B12 and iron being the other two components. Folic acid is a common additive to just about all wheat products (fortified wheat), so deficiency is not very common. B12 and iron are much more common deficiencies, especially in women, where red meat (heme iron and B12) may not be part of their diet. If you suspect you may have anemia, then testing ferritin (iron storage) and B12 levels is a good idea, but it also couldn't hurt to get your folate checked. It is best eaten from plant sources such as nuts, seed, beans and leafy greens, so if you eat those you are probably set.

Anyone else notice the irony of the brand being called Nature Made when folic acid does not occur in nature? (Synthetic form of folate)

Please do some research on MTHFR before buying this. Especially if you are pregnant. Go with methylfolate or 5-mthf to ensure absorbtion and reduce complications that come from a synthetic substance like folic acid that can cause further issues.

Tetramethylfolate or Folinic acid are the forms you want.
I second the bit about MTHFR. It can cause miscarriages, bc it blocks folate receptors.

Isn't that only valid for people with specific genes that would require MTHFR? For most of the normal women, Folic acid has usually been fine even during pregnancy.
