Selkirk makes a relatively cheap two pack and Friday paddle is always selling a combo deal

Skip these wooden ones all together. In fact, don't even get them if they were passing them out for free. They'll just discourage you from the game because they're that bad. Get a set of fiberglass ones for about $15-$20 on Amazon, or go straight to AliExpress and get a starter set of carbon paddles for around $20

Best starter set: Friday pickleball. The 2 pack for 100 is one of the best starter options.. they have a 100 day return policy as well that may help,
Best starter paddle: the 11six24 jellybean blemish sale for 60 bucks they do occasionally is really great, and would last you a bit longer than the Friday would
Best upgraded starter: vatic saga flash (100 bucks)
I've been an ambassador for bread & butter for a bit now too and really like all of their offerings. They are a bit more expensive to start, but also they have great service and the love it policy for 30 day returns even if it's been played with... They are a little pricier at 140-170 shipped, feel free to reach out for a code.
Or go out a few times with a friend to try out pickleball.
I disagree with the "real sport" comment too. It's easy enough to play and hard enough to master. You can play mostly anywhere with any age and you can burn 1000 calories so easy.

Look, just because a game is only played by people under 25 and over 65 doesn't mean it isn't a real sport
Also looking to get started now that my city has turned every single open space into a pickleball court. At least when the fad dies, I'm only out $50-$100 and not millions of taxpayer dollars...I say that only half-jokingly as a former daily racquetball player.
