i have the 2023 i'd.4 on a lease and can honestly say i'm counting down the days until this car goes back

one of the worst cars i've ever owned, technology is very poorly designed and frustrating, countless recalls and range is mediocre at best.

there are many more comparable options when it comes to EV. Chevy Equinox being one that is also very well priced.

My personal opinion would be to get him a used car if he or she a new driver. Cheaper insurance and less fear of damage. Damaging a leased car is going to be costly. Not meaning to offend or anything, just providing my own experience as an ex-college student.

Might want to consider a used EV instead. Model year 23 one owner vehicles under 25k should qualify for an additional 4k discount. the lease deal looks to be 10k per year for mileage. Prices exclude taxes and fees. I have an id 4. Can't say I would recommend it

Was about to sign up for an ioniq 5 For roughly $350 a month lease but this is tempting.

Good point but not a new driver, been driving for 3 years, actually has a car at home that we are using, but at this rate it would be cheaper than shipping the car twice a year out of state.

But in reality going EV would be hard for someone living in an apartment in a red state. Need a similar deal for ICE car.
3 years is a new driver

I thought so too - it's not cheap

How it's comparable? Tesla will be twice is much, I just don't understand why in every EV deal Tesla need to be involved.

Sales numbers are misleading due to the stop sale from recalls.
2024 ID4 nothing but disappoint, EA free charging removed, range is 200 miles unless you get PRO, and only 56 of them are for sale around me.

I don't see why not. I drove a leased car in college that was in my parent's name but was insured under mine. I would assume most college kids "own" cars in their parent's name.

My recommendation now as a dad-

Get an insurance quote for that vehicle and your kid prior to purchase.

Understand the mileage allowance vs how much he/she will be driving.

It's an EV so access to charging on campus and or apartment.

You know how responsible (or not) your kid is. Obviously just by age they're at a higher risk of an accident.

Other factors to consider if/when they want to take it on a road trip (miles) or lending it out to friends/roommates. Those are the things I'd be concerned with if my kids were prone to doing things like that.
Hey, Telsa Insurance gives free insurance to a kid added on. A used Model 3 from Tesla for $25K - $4k rebate is the best deal.

They will find any scratches paint. They will find any electrical issues when you return the car back to stealership.

Work this deal backwards and you will find the car is discounted $4800 from the MSRP. The $149 payment does not include sales tax. If you buy it or walk away at the end you will pay $395. These fee's MAY BE waived if you lease a new car. The upfront $999 pays for the lease acquisition fee, a small cap reduction of $151 and the first payment of $149. Customer pays sales tax out of pocket, upfront on the acq fee, $151 cap reduction and first monthly payment Any "dealer fee's" are set up by the dealer to extract money from the customer without delivering any product or service. I would not pay any "dealer fee's".

That's crazy, I'm at 11 cents a KWH in Indiana and it does work out to around 1/4th the cost of gas.
I'm not sure where that poster lives, but I'm on SCE in LA and it's only 52c on evening peak. Rest of the 19 hours in a day it's 25c and there's actually a discount on a baseline, so actually about 20c on average. DWP users pay similar. I have heard it can be more expensive in some other places like San Diego, but it's not more than gas anywhere I don't think. Not unless they mean DCFC.

Your new model y insurance was not cheaper than your used corolla for the same type of coverage.
I believe him but he has bare minimum insurance that does not cover his car at all, and I guess you're probably less likely to hit someone in a car with 360 cameras and automatic braking than you are in an old Corolla. But if he gets hit by an uninsured motorist now, he's out $40k.

I agree. Nobody knows how much the dealer fees are until you spend some time with the dealers.
