Easy to reformat, it's more of a marketing thing. Worth buying the cheaper one and easily reformatting the drive.

FYI, I was able to get Best Buy to price match this deal online, if you need one quicker than Amazon.

Sounds like ye olde Apple tax. I mean 256GB of SSD is $200, this is cheap in comparison.

Kidding aside it will work as is. Normally you can keep the FS as vfat32 (aka exfat) but you can reformat it as APFS if you wish.

Anyone have experience with the rubberized soft-touch portion?I have an old Samsung T3 drive with that material and noticed it started getting sticky to touch.
Rubber can become sticky for a number of reasons, including exposure to heat, moisture, and certain chemicals. Heat can cause rubber to soften and become tacky, while moisture can cause rubber to swell and become sticky. Certain chemicals, such as petroleum-based solvents, can also cause rubber to become sticky. There are a few things you can do to remove the sticky residue. One option is to use a solvent, such as mineral spirits, to dissolve the residue. You can also try using a rubber eraser.

Bought the 1tb version a few weeks ago to offload videos from phones and various SD cards while on vacation and I'm very impressed! I'll be honest that I didn't do much in the way of comparisons since I bought it in store.

Would this be good to store my music and photos libraries? Looking to free up some hard drive space on my Mac Mini.

I asked a Tesla tech about it. And the software used for sentry mode/traffic camera only formats in 32gb. So the rest of that space is wasted.

Is this a good drive to use for steam games on a mini PC? My mini PC came with a pretty small hard drive and I've been selective on what steam games to install on it.

Yes, it will work on a Mac. The only difference between the drives appears to be the color.
I want the white one with the GBs.

Can you make this into a private cloud?
You could connect it to a raspberry pi or the USB port on your router. But this is just a drive.

You can install and run games off of this. If your mini PC has an unused SATA connector or empty m.2 slot then you could add a SSD inside.

If you want something compact and/or silent then this is a good option for backing up files. If you need a lot of space and want better value then an external hard drive would be the better option. For example Best buy has a Seagate 20TB external hard drive for $230. That's 10x the storage for 2x the price.

Should be fine, the port is the limit anyways

Oh you don't understand, they have to move off their user folder to an external ssd because apple shafts them for storage.
