I got my kid a G15 (Intel CPU, 1tb NVME instead of the AMD Cpu and 512GB NVME) so far she likes it a lot.

BUT

This is a desktop replacement it's HEAVY
The power brick is HUGE
It gets HOT if you plan on using it on your lap you'll want some type of cooling solution to put between the device and your legs or don't do much intense stuff.

Besides that she's really enjoying it and like it a lot. Not sure on battery life as she mostly uses it at her desk with it plugged in.

I can second this, I've had a G15 5515 for a few years now.

The machine is heavy, the power brick is nearly as heavy as the laptop (240w). I travel with it a lot (it is my work PC) and I generally put the power block in my suitcase to cut some weight out of my backpack.

This isn't a "laptop" it's a 2 piece portable space heater that can run videogames.

G15 is not a good built.

My son's 2.5 years old G15 has battery died for no reason. He doesn't even use the battery 99% of time. Also, it has a bug that sometime a G15 in sleep state can't be turned on unless you open the bottom cover and unplug / replug the battery pins.
That's exactly why his battery failed.

Leaving it plugged in 100% of the time is a surefire way to ruin a battery.

That's on you for leaving it on AC power and not using BIOS or Dell Power Manager to limit the charge.

I've bought the G15 Ryzen edition in 2022 and it still has excellent battery health.

I got the G15 5511 a few years ago. I've been happy with it, beside a few things:

- (My Mistake) leave it plugged in all the time and cooked the battery. Replacement isn't super expensive, but I'll be tweaking the BIOS next time.
- Dead pixel right in the middle of the screen a couple months in. Only really noticeable when doing white-screen work.
- Bulky to tote around, especially with the power brick. Should be expected with a gaming laptop, but dang. It's basically a slim desktop.
- Doesn't run as hot as some non-gaming laptops I've had in the last, but still hot and fairly loud.
- Edges are sharper than I'd like.

Again, it's a gaming laptop. Adjust expectations and you'll be happy. I don't regret the purchase and have done 200+ hours of moderate gaming with no issue.

I'm glad we're finally all on the same page (ahem OP). This is a good deal no doubt but it's a desktop replacement not something you can lug around easily. Hopefully Dell has gotten better with their QC. I bought the first model (5515) and it came with a broken b key, and when I finally got it replaced after a few weeks, the escape key was loose.

Other than that, it was a pretty solid laptop, if a bit lacking in features compared to competitors from Asus, Lenovo, and HP. Price is good and matches the low on black friday. I would check to see if Amex has the spend X discount available.

Shorten battery life is NOT what I have talked about. My situation is the sudden death of battery.

And, all my laptops, including two lenovos and one hp for now which are all older than the G15, and another 8 in the past 20 years, are connected to AC 99% of time. none of them has its battery completely died in three years. The battery lives might be shortened, but none of them is dead! My experience tells me it is a hardware failure.

Sadly to see my post has been hidden due to 'unhelpful'. You choose what you want to believe then. In my post, i have also report an issue that the machine can't be turned on after sleep. I googled the solution. Use your judgement!

How is this build quality vs the Inspiron. I'd love usb-c power delivery and some somewhat decent integrated/discreet GPU, but it seems like every laptop with that is a business laptop that's $1,300 and for the price I'd might as well just get a gaming laptop for half that. Any insight would be great. I'm specifically looking for a dell or HP.

Would this be sufficient as a work laptop?
What are the other alternatives out there at this price point?
I've got $100 off $500 on AMEX so am tempted to pounce...

If you don't play games, I would recommend a lighter one because of portability.

that 512GB storage might be a turn-off for some customers. i would personally prefer 1 TB of storage. external storage is always an option.
