Exactly why I downgraded my Brilliant Card when they upped the annual fee. Trick: downgrade 30 days after your AF and you'll keep the higher cert and still get refunded
One more year to Lifetime Platinum, then I'm definately moving off of the branded cards altogether, but good suggestion!
