What are you doing? If you are a serious lifter (i.e have been lifting for years and squat/dl more than 400lbs, compete in power lifting, etc) then this bar will be garbage.

At this price, you can be CERTAIN that knurling will be passive, collars wont spin that well, the bar will bend/break with heavy weight, (Google "bar bends during squat" and watch the youtube videos... ), etc. Again, this is really only a concern if you are a very serious lifter moving heavier weight. If you are more of a casual lifter, just lifting to stay in shape, etc, and not moving crazy weight, this bar will get the job done.

If you are an intermediate lifter, you would probably want to upgrade to something like Caps "The Beast" barbell for ~$100. If you are a very serious/competitive lifter, then you are going to want to step up to Rogue, Kabuki, Texas Power bar, etc type of bars which will be in the $300+ range.

I think this is a good deal.
2*25, 2*15, 2*10 + 45 lb barbell= 145 lb for this price

Very good quality!
Are the weights rubber-coated cast iron or sand? Do they smell? I bought a set from this company and the weights were cheap, large and stunk.

The good part was WMart paid to have Shipper come to house for return!

This is an amazing deal. It cracks me up that some people are complaining about 145lbs deal for $100 delivered.

Dang, I just bought the 100 pounds of weight deal yesterday, I need a bar only deal now!
So did I, I'm going to return the other set because a 7' 45lbs barbell is typically more than $50. Plus I like the solid black weights better.

Are these the special fake weights that Anatoly uses?

Rubber with steel just in the center sleeve. They do smell, you can air them out so it isn't quite so strong. I have a 260# set and the 45s are very thick, but the 25s are reasonable and the 10s are very thin (they advise against using them solo because they bend easily)

People always compare cheap products to stuff that's 3-4 times more expensive.

I should have waited but I ended up buying the bar amazon for $60 after tax. It's arriving this Friday. Hope it's good.

I'm a serious Olympic level power lifter but seeing that this set comes with a middling barbell I will unfortunately have to pass

hopefully walmart does better in the future
What do you mean "Olympic level power lifter", power lifter doesn't do snatch and the clean & jerk, which are known as the "Olympic lifts".

Ordered this for the same price a few weeks ago on the first posting. Mine arrived and I've been using it for about a week. Very impressed with the equipment at the price. I've used fancier set (rogue etc) which are a step up but I'm very impressed at the value here. I would order again. I didn't have to worry about the smell as I set mine up in the garage. Barbell is more than adequate for intermediate lifters. I did order new clamps but otherwise completely solid.

Is the beast probably the best beginner bar?
Unless you're throwing up heavy weight any bar will do. Realistically, as long as it doesn't bend...and unless you have the extra weight laying around to put on the bar..and are capable of lifting said weight, you are not bending this. Bending would be literally my only concern. If anything you could throw this on a bench, I highly doubt anyone around here is throwing enough weight on this thing to bend it benching. A bars a bar to most average folks looking to get in shape. And if you're a beginner, my best advice is sink as little $ into this until you've committed at least a month. Most people quit by the end of the first month. If I was a beginner and needed weights/bar this would be the deal.
