last laptop I got from Dell was more like a Grade B or C than A ... they need to do a better job at grading their "refurbished"

Wow, Dell asking a customer to replace a processor fan on a laptop?
Reminder that this isn't the same Dell support for retail Dell systems. Dell Refurbished is a separate subsidiary dedicated to managing their lease inventory. The support provided through Dell Refurbished is barebones at best. Most problems are solved by:
  • Supplying you a replacement part
  • Supplying you a replacement system
  • Allowing a return without restocking fee
And most notably there is a restocking fee for any other return request.

Good luck!

This system will indeed automatically offer an update to Windows 11. See the CPU requirements for Intel systems here [microsoft.com].

Good luck!

Just ordered a handful for some Remote Desktop uses at work.

These refurbished machines are generally pretty good but you need to do testing right away. Run dell diagnostics, check the screen for damage, and bad colors, setup your OS, and test for speed, test the SSD, test your keyboard and all your USB ports. Every batch I order of these refurbished machines seems to have at least one that's bad for one reason or another. Dell has been pretty good to me too past the 100 days within reason on the two times it's come up.

Plenty of the older Dell Refurbished laptop threads (like this one) remain required reading for any Dell Refurbished deal. I'd love to see those wikis get mined to pin to every Dell Refurbished deal. There are some dated items in the oldest threads (when Dell had more optional integration of features, so getting Thunderbolt or a webcam was still a roll of the dice given how little Dell Refurbished documented their listings) but the basics of what you need to do (inspect quickly, test everything, etc.) remain solid advice.

Good luck!

Dell refurbished, aka Fedex, is asking a customer to replace a processor fan.

I'd require them to take the computer back. It obviously wasn't tested and "refurbished" before it left Fedex. Who knows what else will go wrong?

You can install Tiny 11 without any bloatware on any of the laptop. Gets all future windows 11 updates without bloat

Does Dell typically have good Linux hardware compatibility? It's been a while since I've had any real driver issues with Linux but figured I'd ask if anyone has any first hand experience with these.

This varies as with any sufficiently large manufacturer. One positive for Linux on this platform is the incorporation of an Intel Wi-Fi chipset. Although having a soldered Wi-Fi chipset in a laptop isn't considered particularly desirable (instead of an M.2 module), using an Intel chipset should be a positive for Linux support.

Admittedly the biggest positive for Linux support on the refurbished Latitude laptops is their age: many of the components will have had the benefit of time to gain support (or establish their history as being poorly supported).

Good luck!

Good laptop, memory is non upgradable so get 16GB or 32GB versions. I purchased 3 similar refurb. Dell laptops over the last year or so and no issues so far.
Any config has a touchscreen? I don't see a way to filter for touchscreen

Filter options are on the left side of the page. Scroll down to the Features section and there is a check box for Touchscreen. Additionally, the touch-enabled devices always say "Touch" in the title as well as in the Display section -- it will say something like 14" FHD Touch (1920 x 1080).

thanks, I did see that. Unfortunately there is no combination of i7, 16GB memory, 512 GB SSD, and Touchscreen which I am looking for. Looks like sold out.
