Family member that may have to evacuate tonight or tomorrow tried to use the code and it says "oops, this promotion can not be claimed". Typical uber.

I think they mean that the codes are only valid if the destination is one of the designated shelter locations listed in the deal (Pasadena Civic Auditorium, Westwood Recreation Center, El Camino Real Charter High School, Ritchie Valens Recreation Center).

To redeem the free ride, evacuees must use the promo code "WILDFIRE25" in their Uber app and "CAFIRERELIEF25" for Lyft.

Stay safe

It's really nice that they are doing this.
I live in LA but have been in Atlanta visiting family.
I was supposed to fly back today but I'm staying here for another week bc my building hasn't had power for over 24 hours.

I'm not sure something applicable to 0.1% of SDers should be a frontpage deal
9.7 million people live in Los Angeles County. Of the 334.9 million people in the US, that's 2.9% of the population. Compared to other regional deals at specific retailers, such as BJ's, Menard's, etc, that is a pretty significant chunk of the population.

It's only valid to the evacuation sites listed, so may be the issue

They were in an evacuation site. Unless you mean the already burned sites, in which case nobody is going to be able to claim since they've already been evacuated.

Just another PR stunt to grab attention. If they really wanted to do the most good they'd donate to a real charity.

It is nice that Uber and Lyft offering this, though I am not sure if there will be many uber drivers still working in that area. Hope everyone safe and the fire be out soon!
