Nice find op. I don't believe that you can remove this from the external case as I believe the usb port is soldered to the drive. I might be wrong about that though. If I'm not mistaken Seagate still use sata interfaces for theses types of external drives.

I would like to back up photos over the 10-15 years. Will this hold up like 5 years lifetime? Will it be easy to recover if it fails? Pls advice

This is HDD. If you click on the other storage sizes you can see that it gives you the option to select SSD or HDD.

lol imagine 5TB SSD for $90. unfortunately we are not close to that price range yet. probably another 2-3 years

First disappointed, then kind of glad I was too late after seeing the reviews at the WD website (~1/3 1* with titles like "50% Failure Rate" or "Rated One Star Because I Can't Give it Zero"). Have had Elements before (previous decade, in sub-TB sizes). Some still run, some just stopped working. At that $90 price guess it still might have been ok for, say, a backup of a backup type use.
