Maybe not "no name" but the question regarding LONG-TERM BIOS support from these mini PC manufacturers is a very real question.

I prefer apple m4 or something like Asus (formerly Intel nuc) depending on use case.

I don't know if minisforum falls into the sketchy LONG-TERM BIOS support category.

I got no need for a mini pc, but in for debate on bios update. Ask yourself, how many time have you seen someone's pc got hacked because of a bios issue? And on the other hand, how many times have you seem a bios update broke something? To me it is absolute 0 for the former, and quite a few for the later.

The truth is, hacking a pc through bios firmwale loophole requires very deep professional knowledge, very few CS students even know how to mess around with firmware, not to mention hack it.

My suggestion to average people, forget about bios update, whatever it comes in with, just runit till death. Well if you are having an active hacker's war with some organization, then maybe think a bit about patching security holes.

Guys is this better than a Lenovo P3 ultra with i5 13600? I need a workstation for development. Just a handful of docker, backend and probably LLMs. I'm just getting a GPU for the P3 ultra, but seeing the performance difference cpu sounds wild

It's the best Chinese company producing mini PCs. Also the best company producing mini PCs since nobody else do it. It's absolutely not no name but yes, it's much less reliable on future update when compared with msi and other Taiwanese brands.

Which company? I have no idea about these Chinese companies. I have just seen reviews of them and the reviewers generally like the price and innovation, but long-term BIOS updates are an across the board question mark... along with spyware and security. It goes without saying if it comes with an OS installed, wipe it and reinstall.

minisforum is pretty popular at SD, but they are not the best mini form PC. beelink for example. have more stable product than minis.

The Ryzen 7945hx CPU is almost 50% faster than the Intel i5 13600 multithread. Ryzen 7945hx also consumes 55W TDP compared to Intel's 125W TDP, which means that you can save 50% electric bill.

The Ryzen is more efficient, but not nearly the claim here. The 7945HX is a mobile chip, with a TDP as low as 55w, but rated up to 75W. I could not find what it was configured for in this application, but I would be surprised if it were under 75W. When looking at benchmarks I would typically also assume 75W unless looking at a review that specifically states the power profile.

The TDP of the I5-13600 is only rated at 65W, max turbo power is 154W. Quick search, think you are looking at the 13600K.

I doubt the average application requires full load, and the 8 efficiency cores in the 13600 will allow a pretty good savings during non-demanding loads. Intel idle efficiency has historically been better than AMD as well.

TLDR, TDP is not sufficient for understanding your electric savings. Especially when the wrong TDP is used.
