For those of you waiting on a better deal, be aware that the regular price has gone up from last year (49.99 last year vs 59.99 this year per my notes), so the same price may not happen this year. It might be a few dollars higher. I'm tired of waiting so I am getting it now.

Newegg has had a number of gift card deals in the past few months (example https://slickdeals.net/f/17897070-10-newegg-gift-card-email-delivery-5-via-newegg). I got two of them, totaling two $10 gift cards at $5 a piece. So I spent $10 on the gift cards, plus the $2.49 left over after the code, for a total of $12.49 net in my cost for the software.

I too, am waiting… The price will get lower as the month goes on and into February.

I have no idea how this made front page… This price is mediocre at best…

Once it gets to $15 and below then it may be a slick deal but right now it's just Meh.

This is very helpful. Yes those are most of the screens I'm used to filling in I thought were just on premium. I guess though, why does H&R Block's marketing side by side comparison of all the versions not have a checkmark for rental properties next to deluxe? But it does for premium. What does premium have that deluxe doesn't? Pure trick to pay more?
100% scummy upsell.

I would say this deal is only warm. It can't likely do anything but decrease if you wait a bit.

My business depreciation and capital loss gets tracked and gets rolled and I assume that the same would be true for Schedule E. Will also note if I follow Blocks guidance on version it tells me that I need Premium and Business which I know is not the case as I have always used it. When they changed the blurbs, boxes and marketing some years back I had people on here telling me that it would not do all sorts of things and it got me panicked and yet it still does as it always has. I have W2s, 1099s, 1099Ks, IRAs, HSAs 401Ks, SEP IRAs and investment accounts along with business income and associated deductions and depreciation of all sorts. It handles that all and all passthrough income and associated expenses, deductions and depreciation as far as I know and you only need true business versions if you have a separate corporate entity that must file taxes. The Schedule E stuff gets more expansive and in depth and I only screen capped the first section. Couple more attached but you may be better doing what you are comfortable with but I am interested if there is some significant difference as my understanding the only thing that changes between versions is the amount of guidance. Does premium have walkthrough screens like this for crypto transactions? Since crypto is considered property - but I don't see anything like that in your screenshots.

I don't use Premium I use Deluxe. I have never had crypto but is treated just like any stock or capital gain, gets calculated on a Schedule D and Deluxe handles that. It does have special section just for crypto as you can see.

Turbo Tax has been advertising free filing with their app if you didn't use them last year, with all forms supported. Has anyone checked to see if it's any good?

I used to have Turbotax installed into 2 computers Mac and Windows. Would H&R allows to do the same with the software purchase? Do they require account like TurboTax? Thanks

Just like FreetaxUSA does when it upsells state yet you constantly advise people to go there.

The good thing is that we can share honest and real information here if we are not interested in pushing someone to a particular product.

I will give you a clue, everybody trying to sell you anything tries to upsell. They want as much from you as possible as you want as much from them as possible. That is true of your neighbor selling a car all the way to to Apple and Tesla. Everybody upsells. It is kind of the nature of humans and capitalism that has that ugly side yet on the other side has been a miracle that has lifted and improved the lives of billions.

If I carried anger, rage and a chip on my shoulder about all that I would even be angry at family, boss, wife and kids constantly as they have upsold me some things that turned out to be not what i quite expected. Most everybody I run into does it. I have hired workers that are useless. I have had tax guys and tradesman that were incompetent and some crooked. We live in a fallen world if you have not noticed.

That doesn't mean we have to rage about injustice. It means we have to understand that human playing field and rationally still find value where we can in any given transaction, product or person.

If I jump from Block to FreetaxUSA or TT in a huff I may find jumped from the frying pan to the fire or at least get the pretty much the same heat of modest disappointment at either place. If I give up on my wife and jump to some other in a emotional tantrum I will find another set of things that may not suit me and can continue my rage. Being in a huff as to the injustice of it all doesn't make for a clear mind or rational decisions. Anger and resentment does not make for a healthy mind and that impacts even our bodies. You sell on us on taking up of rage and disgust about moderately minor stuff that will literally harm body and mind. iI that is all you have to offer I think I will pass as I just want to get my taxes done with a minimum of cost, effort and emotion.

I'm getting old and have no time or energy for vendettas for small stuff or even big. Block as company does not totally thrill me but neither does TT or Freetax yet I am grateful that they are there as I have many options available to find the value that suits me even if none give me all I want.

Feb timeframe dropped to sub $20 or bundled with a GC to make deal sweeter?

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed to convince me that deluxe is the right version for me. Just purchased. Thanks again!

App as in people file taxes with a phone app? Personally I wouldn't want to do that.

Unclear, I've only see the offer in commercials. I don't see anything on their website, and even Google isn't turning up anything, so it may be phone-app only.

I got the $10 gift card for $5 just for this purchase. (I should have bought more than one, I guess) So with the gift card, it was $14.01, adding the $5 for the gift card, makes it around $19, so I'm happy enough to get it out of the way now, instead of waiting.

There are a large population of people who only have a W-2. A simple app that'll OCR a standard form W2 and then file it wouldn't be hard.

Yes, this year filing for taxes half of America or approximately 300 million of America can file for taxes via the IRS if their tax return is simple tax return; so that will save many Americans from having to pay for H&R Block Tax Preparation software, and it can be all done online if one is eligible just go through the online IRS Tax Questionnaire and if you tax return is indeed a simple ordinary tax return one might just save one the cost of having to purchase any kind of tax preparation software as that is a major cost savings advantage to the dismay of the tax software publisher's and the celebration of the tax consumer's who have been seeking and finally getting the long-awaited relief from this annual tax ritual tax preparation expense; as its been long overdue and badly needed alternative, hopefully next year for 2025 tax season it will be all of America that will be eligible for free tax filing for simple filing federal tax returns; that is quite literally at least $18 to 28 billion dollars saved on behalf of the American tax payer and its about time.
