I got the similar model from walmart before black friday ( i5-13420H which is a little slower ) and twice now the external display has been blank after logging back in, and the only way to get it back was to fully shut down ( reboot didn't even fix it, tried multiple monitors, it sees the external display as connected ). I'm still within the return period, wondering if I just got a bad one or this line has problems with the internal/external gpu switching.

Have you updated the graphics drivers and the motherboard BIOS? I got the Walmart one too for my daughter but she doesn't use an external monitor. I was gonna get one for myself that would, but now I'm hesitating...

I'm updating everything now. The blank screen issue happened twice about a week apart, I'll see if it happens again before the return period ends on the 31st.

I had same issue with a different windows tablet. Try pressing WIN + P to switch between video outputs. Press it then wait for video to appear. If nothing happens press it again. You don't need to be logged into the system for this to work. So, after the system boots up (give it a minute or so), press this key combo blindly and see if that helps.

In addition to what others mentioned, this laptop might be using a graphics hybrid mode between the CPU integrated graphics and the GPU. I believe it can be changed to in the Bios.

Yes it does, the nvidia control panel mentioned that setting was controlled by windows settings. I may have to try setting it there or in the bios to just always use the 4050 gpu for HDMI out.

Sweet specs at a great price! This is the kind of deal I've been looking for. I was pricing out a new desktop, and it was looking to cost close to $1,500, at today's costs, but this laptop is much more affordable. Thanks for posting, OP!

I purchased an open box G5 with a 3050. Be mindful of what it includes. The G5 supposedly included everything for it to function but "may have been missing accessories and manuals."

Bestbuy considers the charger to be an accessory. While the customer service rep was kind enough to provide a small charger, the laptop was unable to be used for gaming until I obtained a properly sized charger, which I was able to and at least received a discount for.

Great price for some great specs, but could someone who is more familiar with these gaming laptops please shed some light on why this laptop has such a low resolution (FHD) for such a large panel (15.6")? Are they trying to give gamers higher FPS by keeping the max screen resolution low, or was the low-res screen just a cost saving measure?

It's just cost cutting more than anything with this model.

1: It makes the laptop more affordable, and easier/cheaper to manufacture. You also get a higher refresh rate.
2: Once you go up in resolution, you also have to go up in GPU power, in a laptop frame that means more heat which also means you need a better cooler. You won't want to be trying to push 1440p or 4k with a 3050.

A lot of it has to do with keeping the device within a price range, higher resolution means more money. If you want 1440p or 4k you'll be spending a minimum of 1k but more likely $1500+. At 15.6" 1080p is fine, I have a Dell G15 Ryzen edition with a 3060 in it as my portable rig and it looks great, screen goes up to 165hz and has really good color reproduction.

I can't imagine anyone not using a monitor with this, most of the time.
