Bye bye Dell XPS brand -- hello Dell Premium. Am I buying a laptop or gas at the pump? Bad naming scheme if you ask me. Will it still show "XPS" on the lid or just "Dell"?

In any case, this is only a deal if you need 64GB RAM in a svelte 13" laptop with a decent (although not OLED) screen.
Just Dell but without the circle, on their new lineup.

I'm typing on a XPS and all the lid says is Dell, just like it always used to be before they hit xps computers in the head with a hammer to cheapen them (in quality, not cost)

The images don't show both sides, but this is just more of the same "port poor" crap, with lower res screens, etc., etc. (whenever you see major port downgrades, thank apple).

XPS used to mean that it was better than the rest, but unfortunately now it just means average or sometimes worse..

PS - if anyone buys this, you should probably plan on buying a dock if you really use your computer for more than email/games...

Yeah, it's the bottom of the XPS that has the mirror-finish "XPS" engraved on it. The lid is "Dell" in a circle.

I agree in "worse" but not in quality as much as features. I think XPS build quality is still great, but their designs over the years bottomed out when they minimize ports (2 on many models which leaves 1 if you're charging) and then the "invisible trackpad" along with gapless keyboard and touch Fn keys instead of real keys. Then the price of adding an upgrade or two is through the roof (like Apple).

The upgrade options they have on their configurator make no sense at all:

64gb ram -> 8gb - You save $200
64gb ram -> 32gb - You have to pay $300 to get less ram

1 tb storage -> 512gb - You have to pay $600 to get less storage

Xps use to be their gaming line. Then rebranded it as a MacBook clone line over their basic inspiron series. Now getting rebranded as Premium. We have come full circle.

Also anybody remember XPS 1330? The tuxedo one was my first laptop in college. Good times

Yes, which is why this is probably on such a large markdown.

Huge markdown and $1600

The only redeeming feature here is 64GB RAM which is usefull. But you can get 64GB RAM and upgrade it yourself. Not sure if these are upgradable though

Exactly what I said in the first post and so far, nothing but downvotes so obviously people think this either is a screaming deal or they *LOVE* the new Dell naming scheme that will be rolling out and disagree with my criticism of it (which to be honest, I have yet to read a positive article regarding the renaming)! Big Grin

what are you blabbering about? I'm typing this on a Dell XPS 13 and it has the DELL in a circle logo on the lid, it doesn't have XPS on it.

I would not recommend. I bought the XPS 15 and XPS 13 two years ago and they both had trackpad problems. The XPS 15 had a SSD problem and came with a dead SSD. Warranty covered it but took 1.5 months to get a tech to come and replace it. Replaced trackpads three times on the 15. Twice on the 13. They still don't work well but I got tired of harassing dell and warranty ran out. The batteries on these don't last long at all either. Cannot recommend these at all.

My XPS from my previous company had horrible battery life, which I can deal with since I'm almost always plugged in. However, the trackpad was atrocious. Worst trackpad ever. Even cheapo chromebooks had way better trackpads. I didn't even think about replacing it. Maybe I should look into that since they let me keep the laptop lol
