I wouldn't stay here. I've worked here for 6 years so I know. The property itself pales in comparison to other properties on Kaanapali(Sheraton, Westin, etc). The pools are subpar and the restaurant isn't very good and overpriced. The rooms were recently renovated so they could be nice but Royal Lahaina itself is far away from the kaanapali strip and the nearest mall, Whalers village. You're gonna have to either take a shuttle or walk 30 minutes to get there.

Go to the Royal Lahaina it's beautiful. I'm a flight attendant and this is once of my favorite layovers.

We've stayed there and it's the only place my family will ever consider going back to! There is NOTHING I can find that is as amazing as the ocean front cabanas! We don't care about the pool, it's steps from a picture perfect beach (which is why you go to Hawaii, no?). Would I ever stay in the tower, absolutely not. But, if you could recommend another hotel/property that has 'reasonably' priced ocean front rooms I'm all ears…

The Outrigger near Lahaina is pretty nice. Or another option is the AC hotel by Marriott in Wailea/Maui. If you're wanting to stay on the Hana/Maui side of the island I would recommend the Hyatt.

Doesn't look like a great resort, looks like the equivalent of a basic chain hotel in the US, but in hawaii

Yes I paid extra for kids, I ended paying just under $3000 for seven nights with two kids

Ka'anapali Beach Hotel if you want to stay in Ka'anapali (Stayed twice since COVID). Great hotel and you can walk to everything. Monkeypod in Whaler's Villgas has excellent food, a great happy hour and the best Mai Tai ever. Snorkeling black rock is amazing if the visibility is good.

We stayed at Napili Kai about 20 mins away from Ka'anapali In August and loved it. Amazing beach/snorkeling right out your door. More mellow/less "big resort area" thank Ka'anapali. Even with the costco/slickdeals deal last spring it was nowhere near this price though.

People said Maui was more mellow crowds-wise since the fires. Great place. Great people. Love it there.

I've stayed here many times (30+ times). The hotel is located on the nicest part of the beach for swimming in the ocean! The beach here is sandy with no coral and is way better than the sheraton and Westin beaches. The restaurant food is awesome and you can walk to castaway cafe if you want to mix it up. There's a convenience store just up the hill if you want to buy food, beer or supplies. If you want to walk to whalers village it's a nice 20 minute walk along the path which runs along the ocean. You don't stay at this hotel to swim in the pool. Go here to relax, have mai Tais/fish tacos, lay on the sand and swim in the ocean. The luau is also awesome here. The happy hour sliders are decent at the bar too. This place is awesome for your honey moon or to get away with your significant other. The staff are all super nice! It's not a mega chain resort, it's a clean old school Hawaii place and that is why it's on the best part of the beach! You can walk the other direction and have dinner at dukes. 5 days here would be super relaxing!

We stayed there a few years ago. Terrible customer service.

road to hana traffic is very much no longer light lmao (at least during busier vacation weeks)
Road to Hana was such a let down imo. I don't get the appeal. Guess I was just jaded prior to driving it.

Reminder: Lahaina town and the surrounding area around Ka'anapali Alii pretty much burned to the ground.

So, there's not a whole lot left there of the 'old Lahaina' ..

If you're just using this as a reason to go to Maui, fine. But don't expect this to be a dream vacation. There are better options on Kauai and Big Island.

There are other places to visit in Maui beyond Lahaina. We stayed in Wailea and spent the majority of our time there, we visited Kihei and Ahihi Kinau

It is a good deal but you can't beat the Maui Eldorado for price and location. There you have a 7 minute walk to Black Rock Beach or another beach with your own private cabana. It can usually be reserved for $300-$400 night.

I don't like Kaanapali area. Beaches hard to get to, bad very limited parking and rocky or steep or dirty.

Only stay in Kihei. A nice beach every 100ft right on the road, east parking, calm and close to town and all the condos.

I sont even like visiting Kaanapali area, been to Maui 9 or 10 times, only go there to see Lahaina without Lahaina probably never will again.
