I understand and appreciate your paranoia about having our data monetized but the main reason that places offer a discount for ordering online or in an app is because it has zero labor cost. If you order in the store or over the phone, that takes a (relatively expensive) human away from whatever else they are doing. In businesses like food, labor is one of the highest costs of doing business.

Taking an order over the phone or in person scales linearly. For each person you want to be able to service at the same time, you need one human employee. An app or website scales its costs much more favorably.

This is the real reason why restaurants give you a discount for ordering online.
50% off and a free medium 2 topping emergency pizza. That's a slick deal.
I don't understand, so you don't order pizzas ever then? And you don't use a phone? Or the internet? Or a computer?

Literally everything is harvesting you and your data…

Specialty pizzas are the reason to use this deal. $9.50 for a large Extravaganzaa.
This. Pretty much anything other is not that slick when compared to the coupons that are readily available anytime.

When they should be paying the employee more because they had taken away that part of his/her job away? Now I really feel bad for using the app.
I don't think the point is to pay their employees less. The point is to have their employees focus on jobs that only a human can currently do (like making a pizza, putting it in a box, handing pizzas to people carrying out, etc) and leave things like taking an order to the web applications that can handle it.

This is classic specialization of labor that has been going on since the beginning of civilization. As humans have created tools and processes to simplify or automate previously manual tasks (in this case, answering the phone and taking your order) human labor has been able to specialize even further to increase productivity.

That is a manager's way of putting it. No, it takes away a task that they could have paid a dedicated human to do. When McDonald's was starting out, they had jobs and paid well for each part of the process (cooks, beverage pourer, cashier, server, etc.) Anytime there is automation in a process, it makes the business more efficient. But by doing this, it costs jobs.

Good point. We should go back to threshing wheat by hand and separating cotton seeds from the fiber without the use of a machine.

I ordered the Philly cheese steak one and they charged $13.99 after coupon. Did I get scammed? I'm pretty sure the original price is $17.99 right?? Should be 50% off that price right ?

Do you get the emergency pizza even if you claimed one several months ago?

Online/app only is a no-go. They are harvesting your data and selling/monetizing it obviously. Otherwise the same pizza you order online would be the same price in-store or phone order etc.
Wait till unclesam and china knows you at a pepperoni and sausage pizza with no cheese last tue night. They might deny you insurance.

Definitely local deal. Mine offers 3 topping large for 9.99 carryout only.
It's a national deal, if you check the app make sure to click over to the national coupons because it defaults to local.

checked 8-10 zips across 3 states and saw 2 zips were charging $13+tax&fees with the 50% coupon for one Extravaganz w/o any any customization. that was a disappointment. you should mention your region for comparison

You know? I may get this tonight, even when their pizza seems to taste salty. I want to try a pineapple, spinach, and anchovies pizza. I will let anyone know my experience.
Edit: It actually worked out pretty well. The anchovies at first were a bit overwhelming when I had eaten more than like two pieces; however, if I noticed that when I spread out the eating for different meal times, it was not as bad. In fact, it was pretty tasty.
Also, I was able to unlock an emergency pizza. So that means I just had a BOGO deal. Buy one extra large pizza, 50% off, for $9.93 and get one free. I cannot complain.

the emergency pizza offer is only one per account per promo period, just FYI if you already gotten it in past several months
Checking the fine print -- current "promo period" is through Jan 19...

I had gotten an emergency pizza back in December. When the 50% coupon showed up this week, I thought I could get another (app even showed the screen promoting the emergency pizza), but after I ordered, I did not receive an emergency pizza in my Rewards/Deals :-/
