Yeah, I already have a couple of their radios, decent quality - there's a father/son video on YouTube testing these out. They're comparable to Baofeng and can be programmed with this cable - https://www.retevis.com/original-...8-rb648-us

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a GMRS radio, which means you'll need to get a license with the FCC. However the license can be used by everyone in your family. License lasts 10 years. 5 minutes ago I knew nothing about FRS, GMRS, and HAM radios.

Yes, technically you only need a license to transmit, no license is needed to receive. Since Channels 1-14 are shared with FRS (blister pack radios), no one will question you, if you transmit on those channels without a license

I've been impressed so far, decent alternative to the Rockies Talkie GMRS radios for "adventure" use. They transmit as far as my $150 Wouxun with a Nagoya 771G antenna.
