It's not like Apple is selling any M2 MacBook Pros. They did not "kill the M3 series"
I will admit that the M3 series as a whole went more underutilized in terms of products it was included in compared to other M-series chips, but that probably had more to do with product release/timing/roadmaps more than anything.
Hell, you could make an argument that the M2 was "shut down" faster than any M-series chip to date because the M2 Pro/Max MacBook Pros that released in January 2023 were replaced in less than a year with the M3 MacBook Pros in November 2023.
