Someone tell me if this is a good deal?! I'm building a new PC from scratch, no parts or experience. I know this is the CPU I want.

If it is for gaming that's the best cpu out

I'd make sure a new build has PCIe 5.0, DDR5, wifi7, and USB4 or Thunderbolt 4 ports if you want something that'll be fast 5 years from now.

I am not sure whether to pull the trigger here or wait for 9900x3d for extra cores that could come in handy outside of gaming as well. Decisions, decisions.

At 4k there is less than a 1 fps difference in the last couple of generations.

Literally none of those things are a reason for a build to last longer...

Great CPU if you want to play at 1080p or 1440p. If you are planning on playing at 4K though. Save your money and get a 7600x/7600 whichever is cheaper.
Use those savings to go towards a better gpu.
No. It depends entirely on what game you're playing. Some are extremely CPU bound even at 4K.

Not sure why some people think X3D CPUs offer no benefit for 4K gaming. There are multiple benchmarks showing worthwhile gains in the 1% lows and average framerates.

Unless you need this now, waiting may be the better option - at least until we get some benchmarks to paint a clearer picture.

I bit on this one. 200 for motherboard is pricey, but I rather get it now vs amazon March 3 wait list.
I just fresh my pc every 6-7years seems like a good cycle, till I find a game that can't do the job. Now waiting on the testing for the 5070 ti till then my all new pc parts except my 1080 ti. Good luck out there and thanks for this heads up.

I have the gigabyte x870 aorus elite ice (white mb) and the 9800x3d. this combo with a 4080 super runs 4k games great so don't let people say otherwise. the 50 series will obviously have better 4k but this mb/cpu combo is a great buy. I paid around $730 for my combo just a couple months ago so this is a great deal imo. you won't be disappointed

It becomes more important if you're doing super high fps multiplayer games.

They didn't say last longer.
They said FAST 5 years from now.
Regardless if they are right or wrong .. their claim doesn't negate another build lasting any less time, just not as fast over the same period of time.

Read before you criticize .. or else you shouldn't be giving PC advice at all.

Definitely not true for VR as there is a pretty noticeable performance increase for frame times over even the 7800X3D .. those milliseconds are precious in VR seeing as how most people have 8.3ms for 120hz and 11ms for 90hz.

Don't discount that not everyone games like you. FPS isn't everything in gaming and isn't an accurate measure of user experience in demanding gaming setups due to frame drops from late frame renders

Screw Newegg and their bundles. They just take a hot item and pair it with garbage that isn't selling on its own. I will never give Newegg another dime of my money since they sold out years ago.
