I got a much worse offer - spend 1500, get $100 certificate, but I still end up doing it anyways. Thanks for the post!

Lol, mine is 100$ for 4000$. Likely because I maxed out all their offers last year.

It is still 3.8% back (2.5% offer + 1% cashback + 10% tax savings on certificates) but I have the US Bank setup now which gives 4% back on everything.

That's still decent. It is minimum 4.5% cashback and more if you are in a high sales tax state. Best buy doesn't charge sales tax on the amount reduced by certificates.

US Bank Smartly credit card is the one. It does require a certain tier at US Bank but once there gives you 4% cashback. Most cost efficient way to get there is parking investments that you don't touch too much in their brokerage account since their online interface isn't great and below a certain amount it does cost money. So I realize it doesn't apply to everyone but if you can have that setup, it gives you minimum 4% cashback on everything (excluding foreign transactions) at least for the time being.

I got the same. It coincides with my car insurance premium, and my ridiculous energy bills are paid with that card for the quarterly 5% bonus so it's unfortunately easy to hit. My only complaint is that for these promos they issue certificates instead of points, and you only have 30 days to spend the certificate. I still need to figure out what to use my certificates from the Nov-Dec promos on before they expire.

YMMV but I recently had a certificate like that and I made an order and had to cancel right away because forgot to apply my other reward points. It ended up refunding the 10$ promotional certificate as points instead. It was a certificate from credit card's spend 100$ at BestBuy and get 10$ promotion.

Maybe worth trying to see what refund page says after you make an order that you actually want. In my case the refund process listed that it would refund the certificate as points.

Btw do you know if insurance premium payments get coded as utilities or not?
