Electronic Expo has the Denon AVR-X4800H on sale for $1499 after a $1000-off code DEN4800H is applied.

Not sure how long coupon will last, and the price includes shipping. Electronics Expo is an Authorized Dealer.

This is the lowest price I've seen this year (Adorama sold them for a brief moment in 2023 for $1299), and even the refurb units are selling for $1600-$1700, so $1499 for a brand new unit seems to be a pretty good deal.

Unfortunately that $1299 sale didn't materialize like everyone thought it would.

If you're gonna rely on the internal amps this is a good way to go.

If you're gonna use any external amps might be worth the wait to see if they bring back the $1k sale for the 3800.
There isn't much difference other than power in my experience.

This, I plan on getting external amps in the future. That extra $500 difference can go towards that. Waiting for 3800 sale!

I use beefier external amps for the LCR and an old 5ch for the 4 Atmos, and the internal for the SBs and SSs. Then a boatload more amps for da subs!

I have a Denon AVR-X4300H IN-Command new in the box unopened, bought at Crutchfield https://www.crutchfield.com/p_033...mmand.html for $799 on 10/31/17.

Life got busy. Question (for anyone):

Is there anything I should know before I set it up in 2025, anything I should look out for? It's been stored in a clean, cool, dry place.

Thanks for any informed opinions.

I have the same unit from the same timeframe, nothing special, should work great, no issues over the last 8 or so years.

UI is a little clunky, doesn't have the latest updates or HDMI 2.1 but it works well for my 11.4.2 setup

I would suggest making sure it has the latest updates.

I would highly recommend getting the $20 Audyssey MultiEQ Editor app and use that to run the calibration process(ideally on a pad/tablet).

There is a new script called A1EVO that is quickly becoming a game changer for Audyssey.
People are finding out that it gives you pretty much Dirac RC results for the cost of the $20 Editor App!
I would highly suggest looking into that also.

Sorry grandpa this is all built into my soundbar, not interested in this dinosaur.
I think you're in the wrong section, the inferior soundbars are with Bluetooth speakers!

Ive heard you no longer need the $20 editor app for A1EVO in newest edition. If I had a Dennon AVR, Id be all over A1Evo

Hmmm interesting.
I'm not following it completely but know it's evolving quickly.

I used it 3 different times & used/own full suite of Dirac and it's a game changer imo.
Dirac gets the slight edge mainly because of DLBC BUT for the extra cost not really worth it for most people imo.

I would add this applies for Marantz owners also.

So with no $20 editor app or the $199 MultEQ-X software, how do you submit custom target curves in Audyssey?

Again, I dont even own a Denon/Marantz and have never used A1EVO (Have an Arcam with DIRAC), but in AVS forums I follow, Ive come across discussions that said the new version of A1EVO communicates directly with the AVR, so I would presume you set all target curves, etc in A1EVO and then it sends the calculated values to the AVR.

On a related tangent, I wish A1EVO were available for the Arcams...though Ive been happy with DIRAC, there are MANY issues between ARCAM & DIRAC (each points fingers at eachother), especially with DLBC. Would be nice to have an alternate option other than DIRAC/DLBC

My new AVR-X4800H arrives tomorrow, and I'll be pairing it with a set of Arendal 1723 S speakers (in a 5.1.4 configuration). I was going to splurge on the full DIRAC suite (with bass), but I've just now started to dig into the A1EVO option. I may play around with that before dropping the extra $500+. However, I'm spending a lot of money on a very nice subwoofer (Arendal 1723 1V), so I'm wondering if I would still be better off with DIRAC because of the DLBC? Thoughts?

XT32 in the 4800 already manages full range, including multiple subwoofers.

To get the same functionality out of Dirac you need to purchase the full bandwidth and bass control package from Dirac that is currently $599. I'm glad we have the option but it's big price, when other much cheaper AVR's have it built-in.

My .02 is that XT32 does a good job, handles sub tuning really well, and has the dynamic volume / dynamic eq features that I've grown to love for lower volume everyday use. The $20 app allows you to make curve adjustments if you want to tailor in a little tweaks after it does its work. So, I would definitely try out everything with XT32 before spending on Dirac. You might be happy with it. I've been on the fence about this in the past, but just recently realized using Dirac would also cost me the dynamic volume / dynamic eq features. I can't give those up.

If you really want to try out Dirac then there are Pioneer / Onkyo AVR's that have Dirac live full bandwidth built-in, requiring the $300 bass control package to be fully kitted out, so ending up around $1,000 all-in for a completely separate AVR. I think that's a much better path to take if you want Dirac.
