Probably referring to polyester. It's basically plastic. So is spandex, acrylic, rayon and nylon. There's been some recent concerns of it entering the body through clothing.

Polyester also doesn't absorb moisture like cotton or wool. You'll sweat more under a polyester throw. You can find polyester throws at big boxes for ~$10 that are probably similar quality.
