Anything better at this price range for basic word and excel usage, surfing, and watching some video? Not looking for something for gaming. I prefer intel and windows OS.

Using this computer for web browsing, when I have many web browsers open and many tabs open, the screen fades to black in the browser I am actively using, and I need to close the entire browser and reopen it with fewer tabs. When a browser fades to black, the other browsers still work fine. It seems to be about overloading the memory.

If I limit myself to only have 4 browsers open with only 3 or 4 tabs in each, it runs fine.

To do serious web browsing, I would upgrade to 16gb ram.

maybe someone can weigh in on the processor and screen but here's a few good things:
at least it has a c port. too bad it's data only.
comes w/ 8gb RAM but also has an open slot for more memory, very unusual in this day and age. it's an easy upgrade and, no, it does not void the warranty.
no backlit keyboard but who types in the dark anyway?
has a built-in card reader, tho it doesn't say what size.
lastly, you'd be buying from best buy, where returns are easy peezy, i hear, with no penalties.
anyone see anything better in this price range or any deal breakers?

How about sending a few words about the model itself? Like, how do you like it? Anything you don't like? Any problems?

Nice and responsive. upgraded the ram easily by taking off the back and putting in a 16gb stick in the open slot.

that one presumes you live w/in driving distance of an MC, which most people don't.

btw / from what i've read, you can add more than 8gb of extra ram but if you do that you don't get the benefit of the dual -- well, the dual something, which was beyond my understanding.

The built-in card reader is in full size.

I bought one of this few weeks ago and helped him to add a Crucial 16GB DDR4-3200 stick. It could actually take up to 8GB+32GB if needed. The mentioned 8+8 is just what manufacturer tested, but not necessarily the actual limit.

Decent 300nits + touchscreen IPS + capable i5 + brand new, this is the best thing you could possibly get at this price. No USB-C charging and backlit KB though.

I bought this from the last time it was on slickdeals. I don't have any complaints about the performance for the price, but if you're looking to add a memory stick, be aware that you need a torx screwdriver to open it up. I think t4 or t5, won't know for sure until the kit I bought arrives. Not a dealbreaker for me but something I wish I had known beforehand.

here's what's said about adding more than 8gb RAM on top of the existing 8gb: "We recommend using two memory modules that match in memory type, capacity, and speed to utilize dual-channel capabilities. If you used a 32GB module with an 8GB stick alongside it, the system would drop the higher performing memory to match the lower by default." Not sure exactly what this means. Maybe PC9394 can weigh in.
