Why are you saying this? It's the opposite, they are selling overstocked motherboards and memory by bundling them with a highly sought after CPU
The 299 bundle is great place to start a new build. A 4060/7700 XT (or even a 4070) would be a great pairing for a pretty sick sub-1000 PC
What?? They are doing this because the 9800x3d is selling like hotcakes and they can get rid of crappy MOBOs and RAM kits by bundling it to customers who dont know what they're buying

cpubenchmark shows only a 6% difference between Ryzen 9700X and 9800X3D. Does the 9800X3D actually offer something significantly better that is not reflected in that 6%?

yes up to double digit percentage increase in performance in gaming depending on the rest of your setup

Personally i would pick a 7800x3d before id pick a 9700x same 8 cores more efficient but seems that gone are the days of the $300 7800x3d at MC...maybe those sales will come back who knows. until then the 9700x beats it on value

False. One example, the B650 Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX Ice is a solid motherboard at that bundled price. Not all the mobo's are something I'd pick on sale, but in the B650 family, you could do loads worse that the Elite AX in that bundle.

Also, consider your logic. These are IN-STORE sales... you think MC is looking to jam themselves up with mostly LOCALS who walk in to buy this and get stiffed with 'faulty motherboards'? You think they wouldn't get buried in returns and lose repeat/future customers? That would be a VERY poor strategy. But believe what you want. It doesn't make it true. :-D
That's exactly what happened last year with the 7800x3d msi bundles. Loads of returns because of memory instability. It got so bad, that motherboard got a new bios update specifically tuned for the hynix chips.

With a 4090
@ 720p, it's 19% faster,
@ 1080p, it's 12% faster,
@ 1440p, it's 8% faster,
@ 4K, it's 2 % faster

In most cases, a 7700x with a $300 faster gpu will significantly outperform a 9800x3d + slower gpu.

A 9800x3d is a great cpu, but not a great choice at these prices. GPU is king.

If you're going to splurge on it, your budget should be around $2000. Around $1500 and below, you have to carefully consider it, because a $300 faster GPU is 30-50% faster. whereas a 9800x3d will only give you 2-8% boost of your 30-50% slower gpu at the same price. ..

Realistically, the 9800x3d bundle should be priced at $440 - 480 exactly like the 7800x3d. But everyone'aboard the HYPE TRAIN.

Is it worth the splurge for the X870E motherboard? I plan on using this PC for VR flight sim and splurging on 5090, not sure if the motherboard upgrade is worth the extra $200?

Motherboard and ram makes 1-2% difference at max. 5090 will be $3000-4500 after scalpers. Just buy the most expensive thing. woot

Their official policy is that they no longer allow this so I wouldn't count on it.
Correct. I checked with them personally, and they won't substitute even an identical board for a different color unfortunately.

Anyone know if these would work well with the new 50 series founders editions? Micro center is going to sell them and I was hoping to build off a 5080 but have never done so before.
Yeah. Any CPU will work with any video card. You just don't want to get into a situation where there's a CPU or GPU bottleneck

Where are you seeing that microcenter will have founder's edition? They usually don't, and their FAQ about the 50 series launch indicates they won't this time either

Serious question here....how do I get Micro Center deals to stop showing on my profile?

I've tried adding it to the "Dislike" slider but it doesn't work.

I just don't like being teased with low prices I can't get since there is no Micro Center in my state!

Noob question - if I have a Dell XPS with a 3rd generation i7 and I just want to upgrade the MB/CPU - can I buy one of these bundles and take the PS, video card, wifi card, heat sink, etc and swap it over?

I know it won't be top tier performance but for what I need it will work and it will give me a processor that I can run Win 11 on
As long as the components fit in your case, and the power draw isn't significantly different which would make your power supply insufficient with your overall build.

Three major points:
1. You would need to start with a clean windows install. You can't switch from Intel to AMD on the same windows install, all of the drivers are completely different.
2. Your current heat sink won't fit. Every new CPU socket uses a different mounting method. Since yours is Dell, it probably has a propeietary heat sink (CPU cooler) that isn't upgradable. This potentially causes another problem because a new CPU cooler might not fit in your case.

3. Back to the power supply... 3rd gen i7 was made in 2012. I would not rebuild a system with a nearly 13 year old power supply.

You're probably better off doing a full rebuild, holding onto your current video card until the 5000 series drops.

Unless I'm misunderstanding what you are trying to swap out, you can change the motherboard, for example, by selecting the "Build With It " option when you click the deal link. There you will see the "Core components" and you select "Change" which will send you to a variety of motherboards offered. The discount varies by part you select and the original component they selected for you often has the highest discount.

As ,much as I want a 9800X3D I can't find a game that stresses my 7800X3D currently...
Even if buying new, the 7800X3D is likely the better choice if it lets you get a GPU of one step higher, or more RAM.

The only reason to get the 9800X3D over the 7800X3D is if you need more CPU cores and more threads. Very few current games will efficiently use more cores than the 7800X3D has already.

The 9800X3D is currently best for CAD, solid object modeling, rendering and large scale encoding. If you're not doing CAD for a living, I wouldn't bother yet.

If you already have the 7800X3D, you'll probably end up skipping the 9800X3D for whatever comes out next.
