I had this a few years back, but stopped when they started introducing these annoying popup notifications that couldn't be blocked or turned off because they weren't using the Windows API. They still doing that? Hard to tell from the reviews on NewEgg.

Be very careful ever putting a credit card associated with this. I had a client who ended up getting charged like $300 a year later when it renewed.

yes, I had the same two problems mentioned with Bitdefender. I thought it was a good product, but the popups and nag screens were very annoying and hard to block at that time (about 3 years ago). Also, I forgot to turn off the auto renew (it was the default and no notification of a coming charge) and my card was billed some ridiculous amount. I had to really fight and cancel to get a refund. Since then, I have been using MS Defender, but I am wondering if these issues have been cleared up since then.

Bit defender has always done this and changes how notifications display so it can constantly push you new products. You can turn these notifications off, but it's often buried and hard to find

bitdefender sucks. i was using malwayrebytes, but cancelled once they charged my card after i turned off auto renew. I switched to bitdefender AND IT IS SO INTRUSIVE! I have 1 year left on my sub and I'm about to switch back to malwarebytes or something that is less intrusive. Never again.

Thanks for posting this. I currently have a 5-device license set to expire in December. I know I can't stack this license with my current setup since they're different products, but can I purchase this and sit on the activation code for 11 months? Or does the license activate the day you make the purchase?

I've had Bitdefender for the last two years. It wasn't very hard to disable the annoying popups imo. Way better than Norton in that regard.

I swear when they started doing it, I looked up and down the settings and even tried posting a question on like Reddit or something. Responses, as I recall, varied from typical social media assholes who attacked me for not loving popups that can't be turned off showing up in the middle of games or other activities, and people who commiserated but also had no idea how to turn it off. Maybe they got enough complaints they finally allowed you to turn them off. I think at the time the only way to do it was to turn on the game mode, but that disabled other notifications I actually wanted.

Used to be the third party software firewalls for Windows were the only ones that made a harmless request from some app to access the network sound like the horde of bloodthirsty barbarians were at the gate in an effort to fool clueless users into thinking the app was actually doing something. Then I guess the person responsible for that bit of farkery made the rounds to different companies over the years, infecting them with that particular mind virus until there were none left except Microsoft, and probably only because they don't want a fresh set of antitrust accusations being thrown at them. And my descent into crotchety old person is clearly nearing completion. Appreciate the comments, looks like I'll be continuing my abstention from Bitdefender.
