im not a heavy reader so screen doesn't matter much to me. my issue is that I can only read for 5 min max on my mac/iphone/ipad, and then get easily distracted by other apps/alerts. but i can focus on reading when using kindle. i think im probably not alone. although i prefer 7" screen size.
for people who take notes frequently while reading, i agree this is a good option.

Also, the 'new' scribe has the same internals, they just made them in different colors. There's only one firmware version for all scribe models.
If all you want is to read books and write on them, and don't think a 10.3 inch screen is too big?
You'll be happy with this.
If you can afford more than this and need a tablet more so than an ereader and notebook combo?
A Remarkable is a better bet.
Close Friend has a SuperNote and with its smaller size, I'd prefer it if I could've gotten it for this price point
