I leave balance on most of them and it doesn't seem to have an impact.
Sometimes I'll sign up for uber one if it makes sense (e.g. I got a max $20 discount and the savings for uber one are around $5). Also, many times when cancelling uber one it will give you a discount so you keep it for one more month.
On two accounts I recently got 6 months for free, no rhyme or reason.
gvoice numbers are ok for uber accounts
(though many services nowadays don't accept virtual numbers anymore)
Also, i typically only add uber cash to my account after i take a ride since i get better discounts. Uber can change the payment method pretty easily afterwards.
