Over $1/pod is a slick deal.

This is a good reason not to buy or use a Vertuo machine. It's very much the razor/blade business model.

I am not a fan of these plastic coffee pods but if you have a machine for this, it's a good price.

All Nespresso coffee pods (including the Starbucks branded ones which are manufactured by Nespresso) are Aluminum pods. Even other major coffee-pods brands like L'Or, Peet's and even store-brands like Amazon Fresh / Solimo all make Aluminum pods. At least with Nespresso (which uses high-pressure and centrifusion to brew) its very uncommon to find plastic pods now.

Its a different story with Keurig though, with their first-party capsules made of plastic and everyone following suit.

Yup, with the recent price increase, Vertuo pods are at least $1 / capsule (for the smallest, Espresso style), and goes upwards of $2 / capsule for limited edition ones.

But if you want a good espresso without breaking the bank, the OL is the way to go. The pods are cheaper - like even the good ones could be had for around $0.50/pod (during sales such as these) and you get a lot of 3P ones going for less than $0.25/pod. L'Or and Peet's make some good 3P pods.

The official Nespresso OL machines are expensive though, but I'd recommend the L'Or Barista instead, which is a high-quality alternative that does everything a Nespresso OL machine does, and more (also takes a L'Or exclusive large-size capsule for Lungo size coffee) at a lower price point.

I discovered Nespresso starting from the Vertuo Line but then also got an OL. Its much less expensive to build a collection of Espresso varieties with the OL - especially with so many Non-Nespresso 3P options. I'm still holding onto my Vertuo just to keep the options open (in case Nespresso drops a new limited edition flavor that is exclusive to Vertuo - and they do it sometimes)

Does the Nespresso OL (original line) use centrifusion or spinning while brewing?
