I got them from Costco store for ~199$ year back. They are awesome. I replaced pathetic Google Mesh router with tuis one and this works flawlessly.

I have the rbk753 (ax4200 version). They are great I put a satellite in my detached shop that's 30' from the house and it's able to cover the 1000sq ft shop easily. I get 60-80mb transfer speeds within the network even going through 2 satellites.

Got an older version from Costco during COVID shutdowns. Once they pushed out some garbage firmware update it rendered them totally useless. Returned to Costco after struggling to get them to work again. Got some Deco units that work great.

I wish that was uncommon, but I experienced the same thing. Ended up rolling my F/W back to a much older version (after a LOT of work) to undo the damage and to restore the ability to have different SSIDs for the 2.4 and 5.0 bands. Had to then shell into the system at the command level to manually set a few flags to block it from future F/W updates, because these systems will automatically download AND install updates without asking first... even if the update is buggy.

My experience with Orbis is that they're awesome when they're allowed to be awesome, but the automatic hands-free installation of untested F/W hamstrings them. Unless you're able to know how to manually roll back updates and side load older stable versions that include the feature set YOU want, these can cause a lot of frustration.

If Netgear would simply change the update policy to notify BUT NOT INSALL updates it would be 10x better for users like me.

I would love to upgrade to a newer system, but not knowing if SSID splitting between 2.4 and 5.0 is supported makes me hesitant to jump in.

I went from an Orbi to the TP-Link Deco system for a fraction of the price and it's been incredible. Here are some of the reasons I found the TP-Link Deco setup better, so you can weight up your options between the Netgear Orbi and the TP-Link Deco mesh options.

FYI. The Orbi did great for 5 years but when the main unit died, it was very expensive to buy another main unit so I ended up with the TP-Link Deco X55 system.

You can have any Deco unit be the main unit. Each new unit is far cheaper than Netgear Orbi.
New units are very cheap to replace or add more around the house.
Ethernet backhaul has been incredible.
The app has everything you need to configure the system locally or remotely. It's honestly incredible. You can setup port forwarding. Address reservation. You can even have the LED turn off at night time so it doesn't bother you if it's in a bedroom.
Frequent firmware updates.
You can schedule power recycles if needed
Size if far smaller, even with 3 ethernet ports on each unit.

If you're going to do it, do it right with a Ubiquiti Dream Machine and access point. More expensive but well worth it. You've got close to no protection with these types of devices.

WiFi 5 for $299?? Just why?? I could just buy a good mini PC and install openWRT on it, which give you much more powerful performance.

I have already done all that Tomato and openWRT stuff. It doesn't compare to the flexibility of the Ubiquiti ecosystem. Managing and creating VLANs is a breeze and the amount of telemetry and data I can glean about my network while I am sitting on the beach with my phone is extremely insightful. It's got built in IDS/IPS, built in VLAN (both client and server).

I have also managed networks wtih pfSense and openSense. Those are also free and also very powerful but managing them can be a bit of a bear. I've managed with Cisco too. I like Ubiuiti because I don't have to spend my life at the command line to install and manage these things. It's point/click and powerful. If you are the type that likes to tinker and manage at the command line then keep doing what you're doing. When the novelty wears off and you want a lot of power and it to just work, Ubiquiti is the way.

NETGEAR has great features on paper but is unreliable garbage. Software is crippled for luddites including can't choose WiFi band for individual device.

And have to pay for tech support after 90 days. Thats how much they stand by their device.

In all fairness i don't know anyone that has home internet that is faster than wifi 6 speeds.

I've been running with a deco x60 set of two mesh routers. They've been running all right but... Kind of curious of these may run better. Most of the connectivity in the house could probably be better supported by three units if nothing else.

And of course, I could then disengage from TP-Link.
