Both are low end but brushless, enough for most homeowners basic need. This will ONLY be an upgrade from brushed tools or no tools...

This comes with the DCF787, which was under the DCF887 when it was new.
The newer DCF809 is pretty comparable, but slightly better specs.
And for better, now there is the DCF840, DCF845, DCF850, DCF860. Even the 12V line is getting close in specs to this 787.
The drill in this kit, DCD777, has a similar lineup of better drills, both former and current
Not saying this is bad, but this is now near the bottom of Dewalt's lineup.
