For anyone interested in buying a sonos product, either wait or get it from costco for easy returns when necessary! With the latest change in management, declining stocks and news about acquisitions, it is a risky purchase.
Same experience for me. I got both a Samsung Q990B and Sonos Arc + Sub 3 about two years ago, both on sale. The Q990B was nearly half the cost of the Arc + Sub 3, but to my ears, completely blew the Arc + Sub 3 out of the water. I'd say it was about a 90/10 split, with the Samsung sounding better 90% of the time, and the Sonos sounding better 10% of the time.
Obviously, to each their own, and everyone has different preferences, but I don't think I could ever justify the cost of the Sonos system over the Samsung. Maybe I needed to add in the rear speakers with the Sonos system as well, since I did have those with the Samsung, but that's just even more money to drop on the Sonos, where it was already nearing twice the cost of the Samsung. Doubt it would've made enough of a difference ever with the surround speakers to justify the cost difference.
To anyone on the fence, just wait until Samsung's next sale comes around on the current model Q990D. Just this last week people were able to stack sales and other discounts to get it for $760, and it comes with the sound bar, a fantastic subwoofer, and two surround speakers. The same thing through Sonos would again be twice that price, so probably not worth it, especially with the trajectory of their company right now.
Personally speaking, I had another system that would get distorted at full output. The wireless Bluetooth connection to the rear speakers and subwoofer was poor at best.
For me, the Sonos sounds fantastic, has no distortion even at maximum level, and the rear speakers and subwoofer utilize wifi. I've never had connectivity issues or lag.
Went with ARC SL because I didn't want the microphone. Went with the mini sub because sale and had to turn it down a ton anyway.
Yes, Sonos is expensive, but IMO, setup is a breeze and the system just works, especially through ARC connections. Can use my TV remote for volume, app for tweaks (which I prefer because I'm always losing remotes).

I found it for the same price over the weekend at Costco. I don't want to start any arguments, but in my opinion the
Sony HT-A5000 5.1.2ch Soundbar with Built-In Subwoofer just sounded incredible in comparison. They displayed right next to one another to compare.

I bought the Arc before BF for $700 from Costco. I think it could be either Arc ultra is being released at Costco soon, or the management change has triggered this heavy discount. Proceed at your own risk for this one based on news available online.
Coming back to Arc, it's a great device if you club it with at least the sub or/and surrounds.

This Arc is listed as "Last Chance" on Sonos' own site so it's safe to say that it's being discontinued and replaced by the Arc Ultra. Whether or not Costco gets to sell the new one remains to be seen, but it seems very likely.

I say it's very soon. They have the Gen 4 sub on the website. Makes me think Ultra is going live soon.

I contemplated on whether to purchase arc ultra or q990d since last year when it was released. Seeing that the CEO last week got dropped was supposed to boost company outlook. But my thought process was.. isn't this the second time sonos has done this to the user base?
1st time was when they bricked old units for a discount on new devices promo? correct me if i'm wrong..
2nd time was last year with the app bricking devices again? I don't know if it affects users who only have it connected to the TV (is it true once connected to the tv you don't need the app no more?) or just users that play music using their app.
I don't know if this is true, but I read somewhere that all stuff goes thru sonos' servers? So if they go out of business or something happens to their servers what happens to the devices people own?.. I go to costco each week and I always see plenty of arc still in stock. Their sales outlook must have been bad during the holidays so they canned the upper management..
So my thought process was what if I bought the arc ultra and they brick it in 5 years? In the end I just purchased the samsung q990d this week and awaiting for delivery.. I really wanted the arc ultra, but my gut tells me its a safer bet to go with the q990d.

I've been debating a sonos beam 2 purchase for awhile. Almost was able to snag one locally on FB Marketplace for $130 but probably needed to offer a bit more to $150-160 to get it. Have never owned a sonos product but seems ideal for a small bedroom paired with say the ikea bookshelf symfonsik speakers and maybe a sub down the line?
Debating buying a used beam 2 on ebay for around $200. Thoughts? Maybe the best move is to hold off right now and see where the dust settles.

Next time you go to Costco listen to the Sony HT-A5000. I don't know how they managed to get great bass out of stand alone sound bar?
