They used to have upright chargers, I still have one of those, it says "Fast Charge" but it doesn't charge that fast, but at least those you don't have to worry about if you placed it in right position or not. If I had 3d printer, I would print a tamplate or an opening that phone would fit so there is no risk of not getting charged.

They used to have upright chargers, I still have one of those, it says "Fast Charge" but it doesn't charge that fast, but at least those you don't have to worry about if you placed it in right position or not. Odd that my Nexus 5 from more than 10 years ago had wireless charging and alignment magnets...

It can charge 2 devices placed perpendicular to the pad, or you can just place a single device lined up on the pad. Since the phone and the pad are roughly the same size and shape, that's super easy to do even in the dark, as my fingers on the left and right of the phone also line up with the left and right of the pad. Then, the multiple coils take care of alignment on the other axis so I don't have to worry about getting that one very accurate at all.
